My self-summary
"You never know when you are going to be surprised" -Me.
I guess I think I'm a pretty good guy. I work hard every day but I make time to relax and really enjoy being with friends. I am tolerant, flexible and curious. I have a sense of adventure but I can be a home-body as well. I don't have a vision of what a perfect woman looks like, I would rather spend time with someone with whom I am compatible. On the Myers-Briggs test I am INFJ, the Keirsey Test has me down as ENFP.
I will say that one of the really cool things about being on this site is that I learn so much about myself by reading your profiles. In my experience, a high match percentage on okc doesn't mean much-- the computer doesn't take into account certain intangibles like -- how do we feel when we are in each others company, or how do we respond when we have our first misunderstanding. Personal styles such as clothes, music genre, introvert/extrovert, food, etc, is not as important as how we interact, how comfortable we feel in each other's company. I am very flexible if the chemistry is right. I would hate to miss out on a good woman because she likes Madonna and I don't, I don't think that is a very good indicator of deeper issues we might have in the future. This is not pandering. To me, it just makes sense.
What I’m doing with my life
Staying busy, trying to stay out of trouble.
I’m really good at
Getting to the point. Driving. Paying attention-- listening without offering advice. Looking on the bright side. Forgiveness. Continually re-inventing the 'perfect smoothie' and I am open to suggestions of what you think would make them even better. I can play the banjo, but I wouldn't say I'm REALLY good at it, but I'm good enough for me. I'm ok at playing guitar when I need to-- a wooden guitar. I am very gradually learning how to say more with fewer words, and then talking my fool head off for the sheer joy of it. Living by my principles. Finding our common ground.
The first things people usually notice about me
I am tall.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books~I go through periods where I read like a hungry bear, but right now I am fasting. When I read, it's generally something on the NYT best-sellers list, or a classic, or something off your bookshelf. Eckhart Tolle. I hardly ever watch T.V. I listen to NPR every day but I can turn it off when Donald Trump starts talking. Music~Animal Collective, John Lennon, Minnie Riperton, Wilco, Townes Van Zandt, Thee Oh Sees, Rufus 'Bearcat' Thomas, Gus Cannon, Charlie Poole, Bill Monroe, The Skillet Lickers, Hoagy Carmichael, Gary Davis, Balfa Bros., underground college radio. I'll listen to whatever you're listening to. Shows~ OITNB, Louie, Youtube, Bergman, Fellini, I'll watch whatever you're watching. Food~I like slow food and long talks. Thai, Japanese, Indian, soul food, PB+J, we can take turns cooking.
The six things I could never do without
Good (black) coffee. Friendship. An escape hatch. All five senses. Beautiful places. A good night's sleep.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
-Politics and music. I debate the opposition in my head.
-I hear music all the time because of too many music lessons when I was a kid. Which explains the ear worms.
-The number of neural circuits in a person's brain is estimated to be more than the number of grains of sand on all the beaches on the planet earth. If this is true, why is that so hard to understand? I mean, if the brain can't understand itself, what does this say about intelligence?
-I Imagine the conversation between two okc scammers. This one goes out to you, Pussycat_69 and Dick_heavy!
-How will I use syntax so that I am better understood?
-Are the philosophies of The Buddha and The Bubba really that far apart?
-What does it all mean and should I care?
-I waste valuable time by automatically reviewing, analyzing and revising the conversation that took place a little while ago. Watching my thoughts go by is like watching sailboat races from the beach while digging my feet in the sand--it's just a dream.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on. Yep.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm not gay, but gay guys like to visit my profile.
Sorry dudes, I don't swing that way.
You should message me if
-If you've just about had it up to here with Eddie Money.
-If you think you might be able to beat me at thumb wrestling.
-if you read The Onion more than you read The Bible
-If you need me to change a tire.
