My self-summary
I'm bright and well-informed and I hope you will be too, but if you are sweet and have a good heart I'm sure we will enjoy our conversations. No bigots please. I believe that being polite is important. I am a great believer in the family of Man.
What I’m doing with my life
I feel really lucky to pursue what I like best, performing music. I have been fortunate in general to have made many friends and visited some truly exotic corners of the world. My two wonderful children are grown and doing very well but of course I try to be an ongoing help to them as they progress in this world.
I’m really good at
Making people feel at ease, collegial disagreement, Scrabble and Trivial Pursuits.
The first things people usually notice about me
I can really work a room and my conversation is animated. I'm not a Brad Pitt look-alike. I do look pretty good in shorts for an old goat.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
"Up in the Old Hotel", "1900", " La Strada", "Guns Germs and Steel", The Man Who Would Be King", "You Can Count on Me","New Yorker", "Economist"

Sam Bush, Peter Rowan, Jimmy Smith, Bill Monroe, John Jorgenson, Charlie Parker, Ralph Stanley, Ella Fitzgerald, Joe Pass, Joey De Francesco, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Maria Schneider, ad infinitum
The six things I could never do without
Antiques Roadshow
New York Times
Django Reinhardt
Jimmy Martin
My two Children
Judge Judy
Noam Chomsky
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The evil nature of the GOP and the disappointing centrism that is Obama. The injustice of deprivation and hunger in the world.
On a typical Friday night I am
Working, having dinner with friends, or going to a show at Blues Alley or the Birchmere.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Voted for Angela Davis rather than Reagan, private but proud.
You should message me if
You want to be friends with an articulate, well-travelled musician who is politically opinionated, but funny and tender.
