My self-summary

Well, let's start with gamer. Playing games is often my activity of choice, and I'm good at it. Board games, card games, role-playing games, video games: you name it, I'll probably enjoy it. I detest head games, however.

I go through a pretty extreme dynamic range. I can be very quiet and laid back at times, and energetic and animated at others. Luckily, I'm at the extreme appropriate to where I am and whom I'm with more often than not.

I am unabashedly a geek, a nerd, and a weirdo. I tend to surround myself with people who are at least one of the same.

I am free-spirited, strong-willed, and open
What I’m doing with my life

I got tired of waiting for the wind to shift and send me in a new direction, and decided to stir things up a bit. At the end of the summer I gave my landlord notice, then started looking for a new place to live and new employment. About a week later, a good friend mentioned they had a room opening up in their place. So I packed up and moved to the Boston area. After about two months of searching, I've located employment as well, and will be diving back into Software Engineering after a three year hiatus.

Outside of any time I spend earning the money to support my lifestyle (and learning new skills), I try to be constantly doing something I find rewarding in some way. For scheduled stuff, I'm in a weekly board game group, a vintage dance group, and a Renaissance dance class, which should leave me with two work nights and plenty of weekend time for more spontaneous activities. I hate it when I spend time watching TV or wandering around the Internet because I can't come up with anything better to do; doing so because I want to is a different matter. I try to learn to cook new foods regularly.

It seems like this section of my profile is getting changed every month or two right now, so check back. Change is still definitely in the air around me.

I’m really good at

I'm really good at games, of course. I'm also a very good computer programmer and tinkerer. I've recently discovered that I'm quite good at learning to dance.

I've often been told that I'm a good listener, and experience has shown that I'm good at getting people to trust me and open up to me. I like to believe I am worthy of that trust.

The first things people usually notice about me
I'll have to ask some people. Probably my hair (usually in a braid that reaches mid-back) if they see me from the back. I'd like to think my smile or laugh from other angles, as I do both frequently. Maybe the vest if I'm wearing it.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

(a) Another Day, Another Dungeon by Greg Costikyan, followed closely by anything by Terry Pratchett or Douglas Adams.

(b) I really couldn't say for certain, although if the question were what movie I'd seen the most times, it would easily be "The Rocky Horror Picture Show".

(c) My favorite genre of music is filk (please, ask). My typical playlist contains a combination of filk, traditional folk, modern folk, and pop (largely 80s pop), with the occasional surprise of something orchestral, or TSO, or something else random. I really like songs which tell a story.

(d) My favorite cuisine is probably Indian, with Thai and Japanese coming closely behind.

Six things I could never do without
Other than the necessities for life, I've done pretty well at getting by without most comforts at times. Air, water, etc. make a pretty boring answer to this question. Instead, I'll say I'd never want to be without companionship, trust, joy, wonder, freedom, and health.
On a typical Friday night I am
I don't think I really have a typical Friday night. If it's the weekend of a convention I'm attending (probably about six a year at present count), then I'll show up in the filk room at some point. Otherwise, I'm hopefully spending the evening with a small group of friends: likely a nice dinner followed by games, quiet conversation, or watching a movie or a geeky television series on DVD. Barring that, I'm either at my computer talking via IM, or near it reading or playing a video game. This is rougly in order of likelihood.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
There's little, if anything, I won't share about myself if asked. However, this seems as good a place as any to mention this: I'm polyamorous. It's not something I go out of my way to tell people unless it's relevant to them. However, I do make certain that potential lovers know and understand what that means to me so they can make an informed decision about whether they want to get involved with me. It seems to be a term that means many different things to different people, so please, do feel free to ask me about it. There's little, if anything, I won't share about myself if asked.
You should message me if
You are a geek, a nerd, and/or a weirdo who would like to meet more kindred spirits. You believe a nice dinner followed by a board game would make a good date.
