My self-summary
Intuitive, fun guy somewhat introspective and philosophic, who likes walks/hikes, appreciates design and arts. Broadly knowledgeable and very progressive - meaning liberal. I'm intelligent with witty sense of humor - sardonic at times, always in good fun. I like people who are engaged in life and maybe even have a thing they are passionate about (butterflies, world peace, who knows). I don't have a particular mission and you don't need to either, but I pay attention to what's going on and try to change what I can - I guess I'm saying I'm a greenie to some extent.
I realized awhile back that I am much more citified than I ever thought I would be.
What I’m doing with my life
My career goals are in the bag so I am working on me. Making a more vibrant me. I'm learning to sail and broadening my social sphere (sounds like MBA talk). Hanging out with friends more and taking more time off for vacations and fun. I am new to travel and like it. I still prefer the three or four day get away to the 'vacation' but I have some Icelandic plans and maybe New Zealand.
Oh yes, I must go to Bisbee before its gone.
I’m really good at
Form and function. I have a writers mind so I am an interesting mix of dreamer, practician and observer.
The first things people usually notice about me
That guy seems to know what's going on. Maybe he can fix that dilithium crystal thing once and for all and get the holodeck working in time for movie night.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Life of Pi was a great book. Kurt Vonnegut is my all time favorite I guess. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance had a profound influence on me at the time. Now I read fiction, short stories and environment/health/cooking books. I spend a lot of time on BookTV listening to podcasts of author interviews on current political books.
I'm into movies. My pat answer to the favorite movie question is 'Dr Strangelove'. It holds up don't you think? I like foreign movies. Any movie really, except shoot'em-ups with gratuitous violence.' There is enough of that in real life who needs it. Lately I'm getting into sound tracks but I have no classical background so I don't know what's going on. Netflix is golden. Movies have had such a large influence on my life its hard to describe. Fortunately for me, I have good taste in movies.
I'll eat about anything and I like to go out and try new cuisine. Still learning to cook here at the house. Would like to go local and have already gone organic (at home anyway). Quality of life related to food depends on how busy I am at work - I like cooking but don't like grocery shopping. What a quandary. I'm not very eclectic musically. I know who Fitz and the Tantrums are, but mostly I'm stuck in the sixties and eighties. I like some swing and jazz but no rap/hip hop for me.
Six things I could never do without
lemon fizz water
the idea of inherent grace in humanity
modern utilities - notably plumbing
escaping into nature on occasion to recharge
the circle of people that care about me
unnatural fiber - I'm talking polypropylene (you know what it's like here)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My experience of being. Mostly how expansive the universe is. Magical and indifferent. Here we are, experiencing passion, strife, love, depravity, despair, joy, elation while floating along on a indifferent cooling cinder called earth. I wonder about that :)
I never want to lose that curiosity about life.
On a typical Friday night I am
Winding down from the week and getting ready for the weekend. Might find me at the hardware store, catching up on news with friends/ family, lounging around the house or in the kitchen attempting to prepare a fabulous meal - why not just go out for a fabulous meal?
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
We'll talk .....
