My self-summary
I am a parent and a teacher. My nine-year-old daughter is my highest priority. We enjoy a simple family life at home, and do a lot of day trips to museums, zoos, parks, etc. In addition we go on occasional road trips, especially camping trips to national parks. In July we took a 10 day vacation to camp in Yellowstone National Park. As I packed the car to return home my daughter complained: "No! Keep camping?" I love her spirit of adventure. In addition, to wilderness areas, we occasionally take vacations in nice resorts.

As much as my daughter and I enjoy our adventures, we would enjoy even more sharing them as a more complete family.
What I’m doing with my life
As a single parent and a teacher, I am never bored. I spend a lot of time reading to my daughter, setting up play dates, and planning adventures. I also spend a lot of time preparing and giving lectures on topics such as metabolism, nutrition, dementia, genetic diseases, the epidemic of obesity, etc.
I’m really good at
I am a good teacher. Students evaluations of my lectures often contain the word "amazing" to describe my teaching. I love teaching. I believe that the most important part of teaching is to convey understanding, not information. Memorizing lists of facts is a horrible waste of time for any student or teacher. The best ideas in science are also the simplest ideas in science.
The first things people usually notice about me
My sense of humor is original and unusual. When my daughter is around she often tries to help by explaining: "Daddy is just making a joke." My brother has a sense of humor that is even more original and unusual than mine. I incorporate my sense of humor into my lectures.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
There have been some excellent children's movies lately: "Maleficent," "Inside out," "The Lego Movie," etc. Recently, my daughter asked me to read to hear the "Lord of the Rings" for a second time. If you have a child who is between seven and ten, I strongly recommend reading the story to them. It is amazing. Also, "Harry Potter" is an amazing story. I think that children should read Tolkien and Rowling before seeing the movies.
The six things I could never do without
My daughter, my mind, mobility, friends, nature, income, my iPhone, and the ability to count to six accurately.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My daughters future.
Education in America and worldwide.
Molecular models of life.
Current events.
The environment.
Ancient history.
Planning adventures with my daughter.
On a typical Friday night I am
. . . having a simple evening at home with my daughter. There is little time between picking her up at school and putting her to bed. However, during that time, we share dinner, read, do homework, watch TV, sing, etc.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have been kidnapping space aliens.
You should message me if
I hope to hear from you if you are hoping to build a long term, equal relationship. I have many ideas for future adventures. However, I hope to get more ideas from you. I enjoy organizing road trips. However, if you felt like organizing one, that would great too. Also, I hope that you like children: my daughter is going to be with me for quite a few years yet. It would be even better if you have children. I would love to see my daughter end up with a sibling or two.
