Interpreting tone in everyday speech.

Am just finishing up a maximalist, satirical novel about millennials in SF called Private Citizens that's pretty interesting.
I read some Chekhov plays a while back. They're a little on-the-nose. "Anya Petrovna. I'm so depressed because of my conflicted feelings for the Governess Sasha Alexyavich. It's all so unfortunate and I'm the only one to blame and yet why do I lash out at everyone? And why won't anyone loan me any more money even though it's known throughout the village that I never pay my lenders in a timely manner or at all?" Condensed, paraphrased Chekhov. You're welcome.
I have strong feelings about movies. Or as I sometimes refer to them - films. Favorite directors? Cronenberg, Akerman, Resnais, Rohmer, Desplechin, Denis, Lynne Ramsay among many others.
I just started watching Pulling, a hilarious British sitcom. Update: Pulling Season 1 is fantastic. Season 2 is not at all as funny. Disappointing! Other favorites include Mr. Show, You're the Worst, Master of None, 30Rock and Bob's Burgers among many others. Garth Marenghi's Dark Place is a hoot and a half! YouTube it!
Over the years I've listened to a lot of jazz and progressive rock and pop from the 70s through the 90s but these days I don't listen to much music at all. It's embarrassing how much music I don't listen to. On the other hand, Robyn always hits the spot.
I like strong flavors. Indian is my favorite. I am also not opposed to hoagies.
I've been a stand up comedy nerd for years. Favorites include Paul F. Tompkins, Maria Bamford, Patton Oswalt among many others.
