My self-summary
I just returned to OkCupid after a few years. I'm in a relationship and thus just idly interested in chatting I guess. I teach English to children ages 4-13 in a small city in Taiwan (Fong-yuan, Taichung county). This is my first year living abroad, just graduated from the UW. I plan to stay another year and then head back to the states for grad school in psychology.

I am cynical, ogrish, and saturnine
What I’m doing with my life
Teaching English to Taiwanese children. Planning for next year in Korea or Japan.
I’m really good at
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm a giant white person, what else might the Taiwanese notice? Well perhaps I have longish curly hair. Its fun, my Taiwanese students have repeatedly confessed that i look like harry potter to them which i find quite comical. I wear glasses most of the time and have somewhat messy brown hair, but of course have never been accused of this in north America. I suppose being exposed to only so many Caucasians in one's lifetime could lead to broad generalized ideas of appearance. I sure used to find it really hard to differentiate between Japanese people and Chinese, so it only makes sense that it would go both ways right? But other than tall and the hair I don't know.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
A: Concurrently reading The Empire of Ice Cream, The Blind Watchmaker, the Qur'an. Just finished with Faith at War, a travelogue/war journal, it was great you must all read it! Also, I just bought and reread The Witches which I adored many years ago and still love apparently. I both read and collect books fairly rabidly.

B: Just watched Death Note and it was surprisingly good. Recently I have enjoyed: Notes on a Scandal, The Descent, District B13, Shortbus.

C: I've been listening to Godsmack, Gipsy Kings, Nick Drake, Snow Patrol, Vlatko Stefanovski, Sima Bina, Amy Winehouse, Modest Mouse, Paula Cole, The Cranberries, The Cure. I tend to listen to a lot of electronic while attacking a local hillside with my bicycle.

D: I'm kind of starved for interesting food here in Taiwan, so please pardon this rave. The problem with living in only a marginally large town (200k? I dunno), and not Taipei (or London/NY heaven forbid) for example, is that I'm stuck with terrible food options. It turns out I really don't think that highly of Cantonese cuisine. I've eaten a lot of it, I've had it in acclaimed restaurants, and just meh... From my past life in Seattle I really miss the Afghan, Mexican, and Thai in particular. I also really miss dark beers and fierce IPA's.
The six things I could never do without
My laptop, my books, my wok, cheese (damn asia!), my girl, and my mum.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I still don't know what to do in grad school, where to try to take my career exactly. I think of focusing on developmental psychology, but its hard for me to specifically justify why I think that's something i could really devote myself to. My next job abroad is a big '?', and its location in Japan, Korea, or Vietnam oh my! What kind of person am I? If I tried to move to a gulf state to live with my Lebanese girl would anything horrible happen? Can I be socially conscious while living an American lifestyle of any sort? Is US (western) foreign policy leading to a large scale international war via the rise of political Islam?
On a typical Friday night I am
Working till 9pm... maybe a beer or a movie, but pretty relaxed most of the time.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm back on Okcupid cause a friend was all giggly about it and I was bored. I'm a mummy's boy.
