My self-summary
I love meaningful and honest conversations, good music, sushi, physical activity, quality movies, ultimate frisbee, soccer, clever inventions, trivial pursuit, Renaissance festivals, and engaging my senses in everything I do.

I once ate a whole teaspoon of cinnamon. I think the next four hours were some of the worst I've ever experienced. Fact: a throat full of cinnamon is not a good companion when you're on a speedboat out on a lake. Neither is a bear.

I want a sauna for my birthday.

I am compassionate, perpetually curious, and eclectic
What I’m doing with my life
Imagine you have a blender and you've filled it with a guitar, a camera, trees, a soccer ball, books, a piano, a red panda, a kayak, sushi and beer. Not only have you created one of the more disgusting smoothies in history, but you've ruined some of my favorite things. Jerk.

Having recently completed a graduate program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I'm now working for an energy efficiency consulting firm in Madison. Ultimately, I suppose I could land anywhere from D.C. to Seattle, hoping to find a way to satisfy all my greatest passions - music, nature, human welfare and justice, sustainability, philosophy, politics......I think some may be relegated to hobbies.
I’m really good at
Music and massages, cooking and cleaning, soccer and frisbee, puzzles and trivia, woodworking and photography, math and writing. And apparently comma-delimited lists.

I also play a mean game of mini golf.
The first things people usually notice about me
I am tall. You will have to look up to see me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
My favorite book is the Lorax. You know you're a special kind of naturalist when reading that book aloud to third graders gets you a little choked up. I've also had a recent love affair with some YA fiction (the Mortal Instruments and Divergent series among them), and Malcolm Gladwell (Outliers, Blink, Tipping Point), to add to my Tolkien and Asimov collections (I've got a thing for sci-fi/fantasy novels). I don't read enough classic literature but I generally appreciate it when it does find its way onto my library card.

The best movie I have ever seen is Gettysburg, but there's also a special place in my heart for Amelie, Lord of the Rings, Lost in Translation, Dead Poet's Society, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Ghostbusters, and Monty Python.

I love Japanese, Italian, Mediterranean and Thai food, though I'll eat just about anything that is offered. I'll go most anywhere if there's free food involved.

I LOVE music. It's kind of a big deal. Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, the Beatles, Nickel Creek, Led Zeppelin, Coldplay, Guster, Cheyenne Mize, James Taylor, Owen Pallett, Bon Iver, Frightened Rabbit, Blind Pilot, Andrew Bird, The National, Fruit Bats, Michael Gulezian, Punch Brothers, the Wailin' Jennies..... I love music.
The six things I could never do without
Intimate friends
Red pandas (bonus #7)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Why society so frequently seems to want to behave according to the second law of thermodynamics, and how I can combine my passions and skills to join the many efforts aimed at slowing the trend towards entropy.

...also how to make my fantasy baseball team even more dominant.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out with good friends, relaxing around the house and playing guitar, or taking long evening walks to get some fresh air and clear my mind.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
When I was 4, I was absolutely convinced that I would grow up to be a gorilla at the St. Louis zoo, because of a statue commemorating Phil, the zoo's most famous gorilla from decades ago. I didn't make it.....
You should message me if
You're looking for somebody fun to hang out with, whether or not you're seeking the high-risk, high-reward situation of an OkCupid date. I'm happy to use this site to make some new friends as well, if that helps decrease the anxiety of putting yourself out there.

Of course, I'm also inconsistent on this site, so my apologies if I don't respond in a timely fashion.

But if you are interested in dating, I'm looking for somebody who..... intelligent and curious
...doesn't feel complete without time outdoors
...loves to travel and is looking for a buddy environmentally conscious compassionate and caring
...likes finding new adventures
...enjoys planned events but can handle a little spontaneity not turned off by spirituality and maybe is even in a little searching mode themselves
...has a general awareness about the world and enjoys learning/discussing/thinking all about it
