My self-summary
I judge my success in life mostly by adherence to my values rather than progress towards specific goals. Some of my core values are:
Being mindful and playful in each moment
Focusing on positives and being grateful for what I have
Cultivating empathy and openness
Doing things well and efficiently
Learning every day and staying committed to personal growth
Being honest and true to my word
What I’m doing with my life
Making dad jokes, doing a PhD in neuroscience and trying to decide where to go with my career. I have a ton of hobbies, including making videos about science and juggling. Here's one of me juggling in pretty places in Switzerland:
I’m really good at
Living in the moment, making people laugh and feel comfortable. I love making things, any and all sorts of them. Some of my projects are up on my blog:

I can whistle just like a bird, and will happily teach you so long as you promise to use it for mischief. My favorite is to do it while staring quizzically at rafters or other dark corners of rooms.
The first things people usually notice about me
I laugh a lot and enjoy playing little tricks on people, as long as they're harmless. I once threw a tortilla chip into a friend's shirt pocket when he wasn't looking. I then showed him a 'magic trick' where I sloppily ate a chip behind my hand to disappear it. He wasn't very impressed, until I made it reappear in his pocket :P
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm big into sci fi, I love thinking about space and where humanity might end up. I also really like "rationalist" fantasy, well-built stories that make you think. For example Borges short stories, or the intensely entertaining epic fanfic rewrite Harry Potter and The Methods of Rationality (it's free online!

I listen to almost constantly and enjoy most of what they offer, except that one shitty song they play when anyone I convince first goes to check them out.

My eating strategy is optimistic greedy, in that I assign effectively infinite expected value to new foods. I'm not picky except about walnuts and pecans, which I'm allergic to (not deadlily anymore though! Wonderful recent development =D). I like to bake and feed people, as well as making myself nut-free breads and desserts.
Six things I could never do without
The ability to create
Engrossing stories beyond my personal life
The internet
Moments of kindness between strangers
Alone time (or time with a close partner - I'm a gregarious introvert =P)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I love making puzzles out of things. Can I really see that building's shadow moving? Do I know enough to figure out how fast it's really going? Someone made the typo "wromg", can I think of any words that actually contain the string "mg"?
On a typical Friday night I am
Boardgames, laser cutting new boardgames, watching a movie with friends. I might also be deep in the reaches of some forum dedicated to throwing knots or voices or knives, relishing the weird communities and jargon that spring up around just about anything.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm a terrible dancer and it gives me anxiety but I'm working on it.
You should message me if
You're a kind person with an active, optimistic approach to living. You're a little silly and intensely curious. You want a partner to share your adventures, creative projects, and maybe your life with.
