My self-summary
I love exploring. And playing. And learning new things. And getting good at them. I don't like being bored.

I live in the South Bay and spend most of my weekends in San Francisco. I'm looking for awesome people to spend my time with. If you fall into that category, drop me a line.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm in grad school right now, trying to work out the symmetries of donuts with too many holes. When I become a master topologist and get my degree, I'll become a professor, move several times, maybe get married, and eventually settle down somewhere interesting, like the Bay Area. In the intervening time, I want to jump out of an airplane, build an airplane, and live in Finland for a year.
I’m really good at
solving puzzles. Listening. And I'm told I give really good backrubs.
The first things people usually notice about me
My eyes. They seem to change color.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lord of the Rings, The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner, The Princess Bride, Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, anything by Borges.

Music: Bach is my first love. He's a genius at making me happy. I have to name Brandenburg Concerto No. 4, his first harpsichord concerto, and the Badinerie. Besides that I listen to Shpongle, Beethoven, Fatboy Slim, Chopin, John Williams, Jeremy Soule (he writes music for games), Above and Beyond, DJ Tiësto, Daft Punk, the Beatles, Enya, Värttinä, Irish music, Tuvan throat-singing / harmonic singing, and klezmer. Also a smattering of random other stuff.

Movies: The Princess Bride, Star Wars, Dr. Strangelove, Monty Python (especially The Holy Grail and all of The Flying Circus), everything I've seen of the Coen brothers (Barton Fink, The Hudsucker Proxy, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, The Man Who Wasn't There, The Ladykillers, No Country for Old Men). I liked The Truman Show even though I usually can't stand Jim Carrey.

Plays: Les Misérables is awesome.

Games: The Myst series is incredibly awesome.

Visual art: The paintings of Chris van Allsburg, and Escher's prints.

Food: Ice cream! :D Also, I like biting into kumquats: First there is the most intense citrus taste ever, followed by the most intense sweetness you've ever tasted, followed by a bitter aftertaste for contrast.
The six things I could never do without
There are only five things I absolutely could not live without:

1. Trees. It's a bonus if they're easy to climb or if they make noise in the wind. I grew up around trees and I if I don't live in a place that has trees I fear I'll go mad.

2. Caffeine. I don't take caffeine every day, but some days an espresso is the perfect thing to enhance my natural enthusiasm for doing stuff.

3. Orgasms. 'Nuff said.

4. Things to read. Fiction and nonfiction.

5. Music. There's music playing in my head all the time.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
If an alien species encountered us right now, what would they make of us? What will our descendents think of us when they unearth the ruins of our cities? If gravity suddenly switched to a horizontal direction right now, where would I land?
On a typical Friday night I am
playing board games, attending a concert, getting high and running around a park with a friend, or staying home and writing code.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
You know how sometimes you have a fit of giggles before falling asleep? I love that.
You should message me if
You want to meet someone who's interested in things.

and

You're interested in things.
