My self-summary
I love to learn, laugh, be active and have fun. Learning is key for me. That can be something unexpected about you, me, how something works or doesn't work. Long walks especially around water (yeah a cliché, but I actually have taken walking vacations), runs (well ok, jogs), tennis (both singles and doubles) and just being outside make me content. I like quirky movies, doing dinner out or making dinner together.

I'm an optimist without being a Pollyanna. The joy that comes from surprising people in an unexpected, pleasant way sends me. I can be found celebrating traditions and sometimes breaking traditions. I enjoy people who are smart enough to know that being smart isn't an end in itself and feel that I'm smart in that way. Helping people and volunteering my time in new and different ways makes me happy. I especially love the special joy that comes from deeply connecting with people.

I like to work, read, write, play piano, listen to music (classical, jazz, blues, 70s and 80s rock) and cook. I like puzzles (word, mathematical, physical) and playing board games like chess. I've had a15 year meditation practice.

I love kids and have two of my own that I enjoy being with when they come local... a daughter who is doing a PhD in Ohio and a son working and getting a Masters in DC.

I love to travel to non-touristy places and want to do more of it. I walked the Cotswold Trail and the hills of the Amalfi Coast, and did 6 weeks in India (for the record Varanasi might as well be Mars). The Middle East includes Israel, Qatar and Jordan including beautiful Petra. Hiking the national parks of Utah and rafting the Colorado were some outdoor highlights. I have spent just a little time in China. The classic countries of Europe, and the Caribbean in the winter. I’m ready for the next adventure, got a suggestion?

I know who I am and am happy without being smug. There's room for improvement, and that improvement now happens with a light touch and joy and plenty of laughter at myself and the human condition.

I am happy, playful, and sensual.
What I’m doing with my life
I've been a VP of Engineering and a technical consultant. These days I'm what they call a "Database Architect"... wait, wait don't run... I can eat without dribbling.

Evidently, I'm also editing the "What I'm doing with my life" section of a dating site!

The Argentine Tango class finished, and alas I'm not to be seen on "Dancing with the Stars".

I'm on the board of directors at a non-profit that helps disadvantaged youth get to and through college.
I’m really good at
listening, creativity, problem solving, chess, creating fun and surprising people (pleasantly).
The first things people usually notice about me
my smile, sense of humor and outgoing personality.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
loved "Omnivore's Dilemma", "Stumbling onto Happiness". "Three Cups of Tea", "Born to Run". Good indies were "The Guard", "The Debt", "The Sessions", "Quartet".
The six things I could never do without
hmmm, quiet times, my children (although they are grown), friends, a sense of purpose, laughter, dark chocolate (and cheese and coffee and good bread).
I spend a lot of time thinking about
technical problems, relationships (personal and business situations).
On a typical Friday night I am
socializing, eating out, perhaps seeing a movie. Maybe not "typical", but I love live music (jazz, blues, classical) and quirky, eclectic stuff! If home, cooking, playing piano, reading.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm pretty social. I like people, and what we do is secondary. While I love doing many activities, it really is much, much more fun together.
You should message me if
you have a sense of humor and a serious side. You have enough awareness to take responsibility for your part of relationship problems and solutions. You are happy with yourself and not looking for me to "complete" you, but you want a "connected" partnership.
