My self-summary
I'm nerdy book-lover. I am constantly rustling up my friends to go out to a new restaurant or bar or movie or whatever.

I love this city. It's a realization I didn't come to easily. But there's something that inspires me about the crash of cultures that compose it.

I grew up in the South Pacific. (Seriously.) After I got my master's in public policy, I moved to DC, which showed me that I'm more of a West Coast personality at heart. I like things that are arty and quirky more than serious and important.
What I’m doing with my life
I work for the City of LA in a square job with beige cubicles. I'm passionate about working towards making government more responsive using emerging technology.

I also keep busy by learning how to code and dream big about releasing my own killer app. And by helping to produce stories for the show Mortified.
I’m really good at
Keeping my fingers on the pulse of this city. If there's a street festival or an obscure indie flick in town, chances are I know about it. Wanna go with me?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I have way too many favorite books to list them all. I'm kind of a book nerd. I love David Sedaris and Augusten Burroughs. My favorite author is probably James Baldwin. Here's a short list: Jonathan Franzen, Michael Chabon, Joan Didion, Don DeLillo, Fyoder Dostoyevsky, Lorrie Moore, and A.M. Homes. I also love pop economics books, like Freakonomics, and actual economics books, like Crisis Economics. (Let's hang out some time and talk about books. Seriously.)

Shows: I rarely watch TV. South Park is the only series I follow regularly. But I am a podcast fiend. (Those count as "shows" right?) I love This American Life, Radiolab, Reply All, Theory of Everything, Freakonomics, 99% Invisible, and Mortified (a little biased on the last one).

According to my iTunes play count, my favorite artists are The Magnetic Fields, Sufjan Stevens, The Hidden Cameras, Interpol and Arcade Fire. I also love Freelance Whales, Fun., Beirut, Interpol, Of Monsters and Men, Iron & Wine, Suburban Kids with Biblical Names, Fleet Foxes, Jens Lekman and Clem Snide. Basically, if you're a melancholy boy with a guitar and a good metaphor, I probably listen to you. I also like Radiohead but that probably goes without saying. And I will always have a soft spot for Alanis, Tori, and Liz Phair.

I love Thai food. But, honestly - I know this makes me so unhip - I could eat pasta and pizza for days and days and days.

I also love coffee. Freshly-roasted, freshly-ground, french-press coffee -- that's my jam.
Six things I could never do without
As long as I have

rich coffee,
a good book,
comfy blankets,
sunny days,
chill music,
and hot sex,

I'm a happy camper.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
technology, government and impending environmental catastrophe. There's so much promise in smartphones, virtual reality, and other emerging technology that empowers us to engage with each other in new ways. Can technology be harnessed to reimagine government and political engagement in liberating ways? Or has climate change progressed to the point that not even technology can save us from ourselves?

In twenty years, will we live in a techno-utopia or a post-industrial stone age?
On a typical Friday night I am
at home in pajamas, curled up with a book. Maybe a glass of wine.

Sometimes I'll go out for a low-key dinner with friends. Maybe a chill bar.

My clubbing days are behind me.
You should message me if
my profile caught your eye and you want to grab dinner, or lunch, or coffee, or whatever.

I'm looking to date and see where it goes.
