My self-summary
-At last I've joined the rank of OKcupid 100% complete profiles by doing all the little tasks! I'm English and I return to the UK every year for a short period to recharge with 'jolly old England' before heading off again. I work as an English Teacher (ESL/EFL). When teaching, my Surrey accent is actually quite rare, as Canadian, US and Australian English accents are more common. I'm quite tall: 6ft 1 (185cm), I'm Asian Chinese (which contradicts the second sentence in, on my profile). Both my parents are from Hong Kong).

-I see language as fun and playful. My goal is a state of 'flow.'
'Flow' as a concept was coined by psychologist Mihály Csíkszentmihályi back in 1975. Basically 'Flow' is a certain state of being where all you feel is complete and utter self emersion with the task at hand.

-I'm essentially a happy and easy going person but I sometimes envy people who have that single minded bulldozer like drive to go and get what they want. I need that quality more in my life so I'm hoping to meet some diverse and great new friends on this site.

I am juvenescent, succinct, and sedulous
What I’m doing with my life
-Relaxing in the UK with my family and friends before whizzing off to do what I've done for last three years (teaching English abroad)
-Studying how to make it past third grade Japanese (I can tell the difference between hiragana/katakana/kanji) but I need to practice and work on my Japanese oral skills and I've been practicing very hard ;)!
I’m really good at
-Learning how to sing songs in another langauge. Not only does it make learning another language more fun, it's an awesome ice-breaker belting out a song fluently in another language.

-I like knowing about the source/origins of things and I like trivia and information that flies under the radar... eg Leonardo Da Vinci never ate tomatoes in his lifetime (because the time period he was alive Tomatoes were thought to be poisonous).

-Listening. I like trying to understand why things are the way they are even if that means listening to people or views that don't make sense to me.

-Getting on well with creative types such as singers, artists, dancers or health freaks.
The first things people usually notice about me
-My height
-I'm Chinese
-My British accent (when I'm in another country)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
-I like some Japanese animation Studio Ghilbi eg Spirited Away, Ponyo and Princess Mononoke.

-Alternative history books - David Icke's 'The biggest secret', A Vegetarian History, Mona lisa: A history on the world's most famous painting)

-I like abstract films like 2001: A Space Odyssey and I'll be entertained by David Lynch stuff too. I haven't seen a Hollywood or Independent movie for ages, but I really love movies if they are recommended to be challenging or interesting. I love the charm of very old classic films. They don't make 'em like they used to. As an underlying theme I really like films to tell a great story. That is why I adore films like 'Shawshank Redemption', 'Once' (set in Ireland), Heartlands and 'Smoke'. I'm not part of the 'Saw' or 'horror film reboot' generation.

-With music I go through phases:

I have a strong bias for Acoustic Guitar music. I write and try to sings soul searching songs along the lines of Damien Rice/Teitur. I also love English/US folk music especially Martin Simpson and Pierre Bensusan.

I adore pure yummy sounds in Trance music. To be more specific: OceanLab, BT, Chicane, SolarStone.

Abstract mess with your head stuff
I went through a phase of listening to John Cage and Aphex Twin to push what you should classify as music. I tend to play safe now (cos I value my sanity).

I like the more jovial side of classical music such as Mozart. I enjoy the piano piece (the K448 Piano concerto). Believe it or not, there was some research where the result of listening to it, stimulated brain activity in a specific problem solving task!
Six things I could never do without

I spend a lot of time thinking about
-What country I'll be teaching in (in 2009)
-People that mean something to me
-Making the most of what I've got
-Simplicity and ingenuity
On a typical Friday night I am
-Doing as little as possible to do with work... no fuss no fanfare... just being.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
-I enjoy a drink or two but I go bright red from even a small amount of alcohol. This is an endless source of amusement for my friend's.

Some (unflattering) comments from friends after a little tipple:
"Wow! Your face is like an octopus!"
"Are you OK? You look like you're being strangled by the Invisible Man!"
