“I've been making a list of the things they don't teach you at school. They don't teach you how to love somebody. They don't teach you how to be famous. They don't teach you how to be rich or how to be poor. They don't teach you how to walk away from someone you don't love any longer. They don't teach you how to know what's going on in someone else's mind. They don't teach you what to say to someone who's dying. They don't teach you anything worth knowing.”
I am always trying to learn things that are worth knowing. I spent a lot of time trying to do that in the US, and now I'm taking the show on the road for a while.
I'm currently in Thailand, going traveling around the world for an indefinite period of time. I'm not really looking for anything serious, just keeping this open as a way to maybe meet up with some interesting folks while I'm on the road.
I spend a couple months a year out in the Black Rock Desert. If you have to ask why, I don't know that I could explain it.
Currently working towards becoming a dive master, wilderness EMT, and doing medical work for international disaster relief operations.
Music: Tom Waits, Jason Webley, Johnny Cash, Firewater, Leonard Cohen, Alabama 3, Esthero, Massive Attack, Glitch Mob, Pink Floyd, Red Elvises, Gogol Bordello, Movits, Nina Simone, Soul Coughing, Tool, Tyr, Nine Inch Nails, Tin Hat Trio, Kronoss Quartet, 16 Horsepower, The Devil Makes Three, Ani DiFranco, Reverend Glasseye and His Wooden Legs, Jerk Church, Ghost Town Gospel, Amanda Palmer, edIT, Gotan Project, Iron & Wine, etc
I'll give just about anything a listen, but I don't have much patience for pop, rap, or country, as a rule.
Food: I'm sort of what you'd call an optunivore. I'll try just about anything once. Twice if I like it. Three times to be sure. I've eaten scorpion and jellyfish and camel, and I'm game to try just about anything as long as it's not still alive or endangered. On the other hand, I like real food, and will generally avoid fast food, processed food, soy (aka the Evil Hippy Bean), and anything with ingredients that come from a lab. I cook most of my own food, if I can make the time, and if go out to eat, it's usually to deconstruct the food on the menu so I can figure out how to make it at home.
