My self-summary
Sometimes I look back at my life and it makes me think of those Family Circus comic strips where you see a dotted line tracing Billy's path hither and yon.

I believe that how you do something is as important as the thing itself.

"It may be better to be a live jackal than a dead lion, but it is better still to be a live lion. And usually easier." - Robert Heinlein

I think the gender binary is a cultural artifact that deserves to be relegated to anecdote status.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm working full time in a shop that makes acoustic musical instruments. It's the best job I've ever had. My spare time is spent building toys and games out of scraps, cut-offs, rejects and otherwise recycled or repurposed materials.

I have become an enthusiastic bicycle commuter. It took me a long time to overcome my paralyzing fear of riding in traffic, but I think I have finally transformed it into a healthy wariness. Also, this vigor and vitality I feel after riding my bike 15 miles a day is absolutely awesome! I should have done this YEARS ago.

As far as specific intentions with OkCupid go, well, I hope to someday find long-term partnership with the possibility of co-parenting (which could be existing kids, adopted kids, or other permutations) or otherwise creating a sense of family with a partner. Determining the timeline and topography of that is part of the adventure, right?
I’m really good at
not judging a book by its cover.
making people laugh.
shining shoes.
waxing my moustache.
thinking of witty repartee . . . an hour after the opportunity to say it has passed.
The first things people usually notice about me
that they compliment me on: my handsome moustache and the tattoo of a classic Nintendo controller on each of my forearms.

that they don't comment on out of politeness: the four crazy-mutant eyebrow hairs that stick out wildly in random directions.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Food: apples, oranges, kalamatta olives, cheese (though I don't eat it much due to lactose intolerance), Belgian ales, German lager, bacon, marzipan, cranberries, blended fruit beverages

Books: Stranger in a Strange Land, The Book of Five Rings, The Ethical Slut, The Impractical Cabinetmaker, A Book of Luminous Things, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, The Little Prince, The Repairman Jack novels, The Richard Sharpe novels, and lots of others. I'm an avid reader. I put a lot of miles on my library card every month.

Movies: Shawshank Redemption, Dark City, Superman, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Schindler's List, Scent of a Woman, Billy Elliott, Spiderman, Strange Brew, Monty Python, Doctor Zhivago, Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon, Indiana Jones, Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins and a bunch more.

Music: I like all kinds of different genres and styles. I think music is a fundamental part of human existence. I enjoy talking about music as well as listening to it (with others or by myself). I especially value the artist/audience interaction of live music. I wish I were better at making music myself.
Six things I could never do without
Books,Friends,Trees,Rain,Touch,Quiet. In no particular hierarchical order. Also, my neti pot and my Chapstick. And now my bicycle, Little Red Rusting Bike, too!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
what comes after capitalism and how I can be a part of building a new culture of equitable exchange between human beings.

what fun little project I am going to do next.
On a typical Friday night I am
hanging out with friends.
reading a good book.
catching up on my Hulu or Netflix queues.
tinkering in my workshop, making something out of wood or sea glass or whatever is lying around.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Sometimes I worry that I'm going to have an accident with a machine at work that would render me incapable of doing the work I have come to love so much. I think that would break my heart in a way that could never be mended.
You should message me if
you're interested in getting to know a charming nerd who likes board games, cooking and eating, stimulating conversations and travelling trough life with a hopeful heart and a healthy sense of wonder.

you appreciate a handsome moustache.

you believe it's totally acceptable for a woman to take the first step. I'm not intimidated by proactive/assertive people and I don't buy into the cultural norm that men always have to initiate relationships. It's an absurd notion.
