My self-summary
I'm a bastard child of the USA (lived in the East, the South, the MidWest, and now sunny So-Cal.)

I have degrees in Microbiology, Immunology, Molecular Genetics and Philosophy. I also dropped out of a PhD program in Genomics (now that's a story...)

I know a TON about television and movies (but not reality, can't really talk about that - sorry!)

Summed up, I can converse on a wide breath of subjects such as - why Nietzsche just needed to get laid, what the best method for DNA extraction is, and how to deconstruct Community (the TV show) in terms of modern tropes in television and film.
That's right ladies - the party never stops over here!

I'm indifferent to sports. I don't hate them and I don't love them.

I love my friends like family and have a family who is also pretty friendly.

And, as you can see, I am a lot of things rolled into one.
What I’m doing with my life
Having fun. Mostly that. I'm a former geneticist who now writes a lot of fiction. Mostly television and feature work.

A lot of my time and attention is focused on pushing my career forward. I guess that's why I'm here. I am really sociable, but going out to mingle and chase some ephemeral notion of 'meeting someone' is a fucking headache in this city sometimes.
But if you're on this site, I bet this is a familiar problem...

I'm a suicide hotline counselor too. HA- bet you weren't expecting that! I know it's a weird side activity, but I like being able to help people. Also my co-workers are awesome.
I’m really good at
Hanging out. Really I'm just masterful at chilling.

Debating. Actually I might not be that good at it, but it's fun to rile people... sometimes.
The first things people usually notice about me
My laugh. My voice. Sometimes it booms.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
In no particular order...

Thus Spoke Zarathustra, The Republic, Lord of the Rings, Perks of Being a Wall Flower, American Gods... there's a lot of them.

Ugh, I hate answering these questions, I don't want to be judged by omission.

For movies off the top of my head at this moment -- Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, Network, Winter's Bone, Up, Princess Bride, Battle Royale, Children of Men... I don't know -- my tastes are broad.

TV - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Breaking Bad, Friday Night Lights, The Wire, Peep Show, Pushing Daisies, Korra, Utopia... this is another hard question. Again wide tastes. I could really go on and on.

I love movies. I love television. I know them both really well. Because it's a part of what I do professionally (hey, it's LA) it's my business to consume content to better practice my craft.

Music - Radiohead, Fuck Buttons, Jurassic 5, NOFX, Gorillaz, Modest Mouse, various soundtracks... I'm easy for music. Live music is awesome, though I'd like to see more of it than I do.

Food - what ya' got..? Home cooked is better than take-out (though take-out can be awesome.) Italian is probably my favorite, it's what I was raised on.
Six things I could never do without
My laptop is up there.
As my name says, coffee.
Interesting conversation.
A cool breeze.
A good meal.
Quiet time.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Time, the vastness of space, the cyclic nature of destiny... and how shiny things look pretty and how I like that.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out with my friends. Possibly getting a drink or eating a meal. Maybe going to a show. You never know, life is weird.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I tear up in movies and TV shows, like, way too easily sometimes.
You should message me if
These things sound appealing to you.

If you are an avclub type of person (and you know that it references more than just the high school club), then we should do just fine.
