My self-summary
Eight years in SF before getting displaced because I don't make brogrammer money. Three years in Oakland, still trying to figure out the best ways to spend my time.

I say "spend my time" like I'm not a graduate student.

I really don't actually have much time that isn't accounted for on a syllabus somewhere.

The older I get, the less energy I have for trying to hide the fact that I'm nowhere near figuring out this "life" thing.
What I’m doing with my life
Reading, then writing papers on the readings. Talking to my dog. Listening to podcasts. Drinking scotch. Wishing I could spend more time with my TV.
I’m really good at
I do really well on standardized tests? Also, if I commit to doing something, I will not stop until the job is done or I have collapsed from exhaustion.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I don't really look my age.

I also have no interest in acting my age, frankly.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
"All time" is kind of hard. It changes a lot. Though, for sake of argument: War of the Worlds, World War Z, Y the Last Man, Planetary, Rat Queens, Guns Germs & Steel, Scott Pilgrim, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, New Who, Steven Universe, Galactica, Labyrinth, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Welcome to Night Vale, Lore, Rachel & Miles X-Plain the X-Men, Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, ELO's "Time", Lorde, Florence + The Machine, Fun., The Decemberists, Zeppelin, Purple Rain.

My second favorite movie genre, after "Stuff with Explosions" is female-lead high school dark comedies.

Though, honestly, I find high school/teen movies to just be another genre of sci-fi/fantasy.
The six things I could never do without
YouTube and my dog Rudy.

Four other things? Internet. Dogs on the internet. Toys that I can fidget with. A pepper mill.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
"Motherfuckers will read a book that’s 1/3 elvish, but put two sentences in Spanish and White people think we’re taking over."
- Junot Diaz

^That. The social politics of popular culture and Future Space Latinos.
On a typical Friday night I am
Homework and beer.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Look: I have high-functioning anxiety. What this generally means is that I'm constantly running myself ragged (getting a lot done, but somehow it's never enough) trying to live up to some kind of imaginary standard in my own head.

You want realness? Boom. There you go. Realness.
You should message me if
OK, but, seriously, the only thing I'm going to be able to talk about until November is politics (and how this election has buried the idea of policy positions as a determinant of elections in a deep, dark hole from which it will never emerge). So, if you want to talk about that, message me.

Otherwise, wait until after the election, and we can talk about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
