My self-summary
i'm 40, from wexford, living in dublin 8.. passionate about music and art.. hopefully people find me engaging and a good listener.. i'm often social but do like (need) a lot of time to myself..
What I’m doing with my life
working, yeah, far from career-minded.. pursuing my interests the best i can..
I’m really good at
thinking too much.. good at guitar and drawing..
The first things people usually notice about me
that i'm bald....
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: very rarely read fiction.. like art books..
Movies: documentaries appeal to me most.. my favourites are 'bus 174', 'the devil and daniel johnston', 'the house I live in', 'in the realms of the unreal' & 'village of the dolls'; 'the war you don't see' and 'utopia' by john pilger.. 'the isle' is probably my favourite non-doc film.. Other non-doc favs; The Paradise Trilogy, Garage, Secrets & Lies, Ilo Ilo, Deconstructing Harry, Withnail & I, Audition, American Splendor.
Art: figurative painting is my main interest in art.. Alice Neel, Jenny Saville, Egon Schiele, Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud etc. and a keen interest in outsider art & more, incl. some performance (Vienna Actionists, Abramovic etc.).. Averse to the conceptual, usually, which rules out so much.
Shows: art programmes, especially anything made by andrew graham-dixon
comedy; louie, human remains, curb your enthusiasm, the thick of it, saxondale, i'm alan partridge etc., loved horace & pete recently, not a comedy but brilliant
science programmes, even though they can unsettle me terribly..
Currently catching up on Marc Maron's WTF podcasts, just listened to the one with JB Smoove, hilarious..
Love the old Ricky Gervais shows (for Karl primarily, of course) on xfm, via YouTube.
Music: lots & lots, like anyone of course.. my favourite albums are mount eerie - dawn, damien jurado - ghost of david, my bloody valentine - loveless, vic chesnutt - west of rome, stina nordenstam - and she closed her eyes, kristin hersh - hips and makers, yo la tengo - and then nothing turned itself inside-out.. etc.
update: new favourites - Joan Shelley, & Sufjan Stevens' current album..
new update: Sleaford Mods
Some other favourites: Angel Olsen, A Weather, Boa Morte, Daniel Johnston, Dolorean, Early Day Miners, Gillian Welch, Iron & Wine, Joy Division, Lucinda Williams, The Microphones, Radiohead, Red House Painters, R.E.M., Sigur Rós, Sparklehorse, Spokane, Teenage Fanclub, The American Analog Set, The Czars, The Magnetic Fields, The Notwist, Wesley Willis.
my favourite ever song is this (v. sad one): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7orsMzR9w-E
food: not bothered but like thai best if (somehow) eating out (not into the restaurant thing)..
The six things I could never do without
music
autumn
guitar
enough sleep
time to myself
razors
I spend a lot of time thinking about
music, art, how to best spend my time, the next day, the past..
On a typical Friday night I am
same as everyone.. in or out..
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
well, i have a phobia of jewellery (really)..
You should message me if
you're into music and/or art, and want to talk a lot about it; are independent, creative, funny & just damn nice.. I really don't want to hear travel stories or (overly) talk politics..
