My self-summary
-So here it is fellas: I'm creative, curious, kind, happy, affectionate, occasionally even funny, low maintenance (except when waiting in lines), polite, healthy but not depressingly so (in other words, I WILL eat that piece of chocolate cake), physically active but not in the gym-going sense, more in the walking and exploring and occasional going for a run sense. I enjoy going out but also like to stay home and nest. I'm stable, employed, sane, healthy, and articulate and would like the same from my partner. I'm verbal and curious and I hope you are too. Please note, I'm looking for a relationship, and I'd like to meet someone also open and available to a relationship.

-I read (fiction, the NY Times, health magazines, food...) and discuss current events, politics, movies, cheesy TV, etc. I watch lusciously romantic Jane Austen movies, and I'm now watching a British baking competition on PBS which is completely charming.
-Interested in how people in other parts of the world live. Smitten with dogs and am impressed with their ability to live in the moment...I play tennis and occasionally dabble in Yoga, especially the easy poses like Child's pose and Corpse position. I like the occasional baseball game and beer, and a martini makes me feel fancy (one or two martinis is my limit--after that I'll be wearing lampshades and dancing on the bar).
-I cook and eat (shrimp with garlicky olive oil and quinoa--my latest creation). Chocolate is always on my mind. I'm interested in the arts and theatre (I do some acting in local community theatre), and I like a swanky bar or a tiny hole-in-the-wall joint.
- On a night home with friends, I wouldn't be above playing charades, twister, monopoly (and baking a fabulous but probably lopsided cake to go with the evening). Also, I have the bad habit of always being on time. I tend to be an early riser.
-I think my students would say I am a charismatic and creative teacher (at least that’s what I’d like them to say).
What I’m doing with my life
I write plays, and teach public speaking to international students (and a variety of debate/discussion classes). I also act in local community theatre.
I occasionally go to the Tuesday night drop-in meditation group down the street (where sometimes I actually meditate, and sometimes I just think long and deeply about what I'll have for dessert when I get home).
I’m really good at
I've listened to so much PBS, I can now say I have an excellent English accent (thank you Downton Abbey) although actual people from England might object, conversation (I'm interested in people), scalp massages, listening and offering support, showing enthusiasm, being affectionate, kissing all the puppies, whipping up a bechamel wine sauce without a recipe, and baking. And I like old people and children (and I'm interested in their lives).
The first things people usually notice about me
My enthusiasm. I have been called vivacious. Mostly by my mother.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
If you and I have different tastes in movies and books, etc. it's fine by me. I'm not looking for my duplicate :-)

Books: Everything from health and cookbooks, all of Jane Austen, Garlic and Sapphires by Ruth Reichl, The Tender Bar...Mindy Kaling from The Office wrote a very funny book...The Bronte sisters...I'm reading Salmon Rushdie's latest memoir. (sidebar: I had to stop reading Rushdie's memoir--but he was exhausting.)

TV: Downton Abbey, The Americans, John Oliver, Homeland, that British Baking Show on PBS where everyone is so insanely civilized and bakes the most fabulous creations! Also, I just started watching Masters of Sex...which is titillating :-)

Movies: Silver Linings Playbook, Every version of Pride and Prejudice, Bridesmaids (how refreshing to see that women can be as repulsive as men), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Strictly Ballroom, Mad Hot Ballroom, Rebecca, The Birds...there are just too many.

Food: those Italian rainbow cake/cookies that have jam in the middle and chocolate on the outside. Avocados, Strawberries, Eggplant, Chopped Liver (that's right, I said chopped liver), fresh ginger, dumplings of all varieties, cheese, champagne!

Music: Big band music, jazz, blues, rock... almost everything.

Shows: I either love live theatre or hate it (bad theatre is like slow torture)-- I see a bunch of community theatre because I have actor friends and because I act and write.
The six things I could never do without
Dental floss, the wind coming through the windows (that sounds poetic, yes?), sunscreen, chocolate cake, stories, puppy kisses, really good conversations, and a hot shower! But I'm quite sure I could do without all this, at least for a time. (I just realized I listed more than 6 things)...I also just realized I didn't list friends or family. That goes without saying.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Food (in particular, the food group called Cake), nutrition (to help combat the cake situation), where I'll go on vacation, how to do good in this world, what my next creative endeavor will be, and especially, why oh why my hair won't do what I want it to do.
On a typical Friday night I am
Dinner or drinks with friends, a movie, live theatre, baking, reading, on my couch happily doing nothing, a steaming hot bath.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I eat nutella right out of the jar (who has time to spread it on a croissant? or whatever it's supposed to go on). Also, I watch a really ridiculous show on television, which I'm too embarrassed to name, but it's horrible and I can't stop watching it. If it helps, I watch it ironically.
You should message me if
If you love to laugh, you're affectionate, like to talk (about politics, the movie we just saw, what's happening in the news, that weird new neighbor...), if you like to read, if you're actually looking for a partner in life, feel mostly comfortable with who you are right now, and can resolve conflict in a healthy and drama-free way. Also, I would really appreciate it if your photos are plentiful and up to date.
