My self-summary
Earlier this year one of my best friends passed away. He was 35 and died after a month-long fight with cancer. His passing taught me that life is really about two things: creating memories with the people you love and doing whatever you can to create opportunities for other people. If you are doing those two things, then you are living a life worth living.
What I’m doing with my life
Doing everything humanly possible to help kids be the best versions of themselves, which translates to-- I work at the intersection of education policy and politics, helping to change the structures that keep kids in low-income neighborhoods trapped.
I’m really good at
1) empathy
2) being patient
3) running
4) waking up naturally when the sun is out
5) finding the silver lining in practically everything
The first things people usually notice about me
ummm...why don't you tell me? :)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: White Noise; Run Rabbit, Run; Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao; In the Time of the Butterflies; Saving the World; The Alchemist; Aleph
Shows: Bob's Burgers, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, House of Cards, etc.
Music: pretty much stuck in the 90s when it comes to music, but will sporadically make a jump to the present
The six things I could never do without
- belief that the glass is always half-full (I'm an optimist!)
- family and friends
- running
- curiosity for learning and adventure
- love
- sleep
I spend a lot of time thinking about
the present, and what I can do to realize my potential and to create a greater impact throughout our communities.
On a typical Friday night I am
-- at a local dive bar, hanging out with friends, or staying in.
You should message me if
- you have a love for wonder and adventure
- you enjoy depth, and conversations full of meaning and substance
- you're ready to be challenged and understand it comes from a place of me wanting to help you realize your potential
