My self-summary
I'm an intelligent, mildly sarcastic, slightly pedantic scientist who loves a good laugh and a nice dinner. I'm a science writer by day, so you'll find I'm a little obsessed with furry critters and our feathered friends... and even the creepy ones.

Trips to the zoo are frequent and are also frequently jarred by people who don't read the signs next to the animals they paid to look at. But zoos are great and I'm not afraid to take you to one. I like to cook; it's science for your mouth. Photography and coffee are awesome. Red wine is good, and so is the occasional bourbon.
What I’m doing with my life
Trying to see every Foucault's pendulum in the world. (Three down, ~316 to go.)
I’m really good at
Playing Set. Cooking and writing. Making a mess.

I will kick your ass at Skeeball.

I have an exceptionally good sense of direction.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'll see anything in a movie theater as long as its accompanied by popcorn. I learned to cook by watching the Food Network. I finished binging The West Wing on Netflix, now I'm working my way through Chuck. And I'm watching Alias again. I watch a lot of TV.

When I was in South Africa last year, I read "Brazzaville Beach" by William Boyd. Even though it's about chimpanzees, which don't live in South Africa, and takes place in Congo. Great fiction, but based on real researchers and places.
The six things I could never do without
The Internet
Hiking boots
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I really want a domestic fox as a pet, but they're classified as exotic in California.
On a typical Friday night I am
watching a movie, cooking, or meeting up with friends for game night.
You should message me if
You're game to hike the Santa Monica Mountains with me as I learn to identify all the butterflies and lizards and everything else that flies, swims, or walks.
