-I can't currently see "likes"- I just wanted to put that out there.
Thank you for stopping by.
(I am [very] intermittently updating my profile. So it's a bit of a work in progress.)
I am an Oakland native, and work in the trades.
I like food,
public radio ( to the best of our knowledge , studio 360, says you, Radiolab, TAL), comedy, words, language (though I'm not great at Scrabble, hmmm),
science (I could spend hours at the Exploratorium and/or the aquarium learning'),
art & music of many kinds, outdoor activities, the occasional flea market or auction.
I am smart and witty, though at times like this, I have trouble coming up with pithy comments describing myself.
I can also tend towards goofy/ silly when I get comfortable around people I like.
I think I still have something of a punkrock sensibility. I get asked if I am a musician or artist enough that it no longer surprises me. I also get the occasional "Are you from the east coast?"... um, no.
I'm looking for someone I have chemistry with, that I can talk to, communicate with, cook with, laugh with, trust, respect, kiss, snuggle,.... oh yeah.
Profiles and compatibility scores are all well and good but really, it all comes down to chemistry.
I'm enjoying it and trying to get better at it.
Practicing knot tying.
Using my hands.
Navigating through crowds quickly.
I've heard that I look like a musician or artist a number of times.
I like movies a lot and I read quite a bit too.
Books: Fiction mostly some travel though I am interested in other genres - Dr. Seuss, old sci fi, H.Potter, cook books, Life of Pi, Foucault's Pendulum; recently, A Movable Feast, Bangkok 8 series, Paul Theroux, and a local detective novel series. Currently reading The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Music: My current Pandora station (aside from stand-up) is "Bad Things". It seems to be a cross of blues/country/dark burlesque-cabaret/rockabilly but none of that quite seems to fit. I go from big band swing, bebop & cool, classical, gypsy, African/diaspora, Sinatra, Motown, funk, electroswing, Bix and Django to Tom Waits, Clash, Pixies, Gogol, The Harder They Come soundtrack, . KALX radio. KALW has an awesome Africa mix Thurs nites and space music on Sun nights.
Movies: All over the map really - new, old, mainstream, indie, doc. Third Man, Topsy Turvy, Blues Brothers, Sand Pebbles, Incredibles, Fast Runner, Tale of the Weeping Camel, Usual Suspects, Pulp Fiction, Yojimbo, The Professional, Ghost in the Shell, Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Reds, Once Were Warriors, Bringing Up Baby, Paris-Texas, Hudsucker Proxy - (you know, for kids), city of lost children, ApocalypseNow Redux, Touch of Evil, Miller's Crossing, Dead Man ...Really I could just go on and on. I really would like to take an unending film class.
Recently I haven't been watching a great deal.
Food: I eat just about anything but fast food, and liver in it's normal form, though I do like pâté.
Really, I love food, all kinds. I mean with the plethora of styles we have available to us here in the bay, it would be folly not to indulge in the abundance.
Sharing food with someone you care about is bestest.
a book...must ..have ..reading ..material
a sharp chefs knife
a good hat
juice, I like juice*
...a really good peach. berry pies. These are bonuses
* I've backed off on the juice a bit in order to reduce my sugar intake, ugh.
Someone said shades of gray, not the color. I'm stealing that, because I like it and it works.
How I can better integrate helping others in to my daily life.
Otherwise no one particular thing.
I like to let my mind wander...do be do be do...( Socrates, Sartre, Sinatra )
"I'm fixing a hole, where the rain gets in..."
Oh... how about why desalinization tech isn't of prime importance around the globe?
There really is no typical.
Then there's the paradox that if I share it in public, it's not really private is it?
Okay. I don't buy bottled water.
There I said it.
Pheeww. that felt good.
I'm not on here to just text/email you know.
Look, I feel that, while I am smart, and funny, and witty(or can be mostly), I have a difficult time coming across that way in a first or second email. I do better face to face. So this whole "Make me laugh," or "seduce my intellect," is difficult for me online. I don't know you yet. When I do, I will.
You realize that actually, some of the more irreverent and witty folks you know may also take rather boring pictures.
You are better at improv -ing with a computer screen than I am.
You understand that these profiles help to prove the Heisenberg uncertainty principle ( by trying to measure and define certain aspects, other aspects are less understood or measured less correctly... well you get the idea right?).
Also, if you've read this far, for the record, I am perfectly comfortable dating women taller than myself. The last woman I dated is 6'0" tall. And yes, she would wear heels. So, while I'm not specifically looking for that, I want to make it clear that it is not an issue... For me.
