Hello, I have been on here for a while, and I have read a few profiles. Okay, maybe more than a few. :)
The thing that I find in common on most of them is that you say that you are open-minded, and I like that. I don't write to too many woman on here, but when I do, I usually send a message that includes some information about myself. The message is very similar but I modify it to answer questions about myself or to comment about her profile. If you have received a message from me, some of it may look similar. I decided I would try a different approach and make this my profile. I have received a lot of positive responses by being up front, so here goes:
I have been in recovery for nearly 7 years. That gave me a whole new perspective of life. I feel re-born. I know - that may make some people want to go to the next profile or just plan turn and run. Often, it's because they don't understand recovery, and that's okay, I'd rather be up front about it. Better than to have people invest time and have me reveal that later. If people were to take the time to learn about recovery, they would learn that people in recovery are very spiritual (not religious) and have gained a life beyond their wildest dreams. Freedom.
Family is very important to me too. My kids are my world, as well. I have amazing, great kids. My daughter is 19 years old and is going to school in the Western Connecticut. She is majoring in Music. I also have a 17 year old son. He is a junior in High School, and excels in music, as well.
I like to hike and would some day love to hike the Appalachian Trail. It's a bucket list item, so I don't know if that will ever happen, but that's why they call it a bucket list. You may laugh at this, but some day, I would love to take a class in ballroom dancing. I'm a little intimidated by it, but I still want to do it, never-the-less. Part of what makes our heart beats faster is to tackle our fears. I love quiet nights at home and I am a great cook. I also love to stroll around big cities just people watching or window shopping. I love to be outdoors, but not so much in winter. I used to love to ski, but I'm really not much of a winter guy anymore. I really like the other three seasons. I like thunderstorms in Spring, sitting on the beach in the Summer, and smelling the leaves in a Fall breeze.
I enjoy all kinds of music, but I could do without rap and most country. If you like it, that's fine by me. I listen to a lot of current music, since my kids have their music going all the time. I taught my children to appreciate all types of music, as well, including Broadway musicals and encouraged (well, almost forced) them to go to see Phantom of the Opera with their school on a field trip, and now they are hooked. They both have it on their phones and their multi-media. My son is a fanatic over it, and my daughter decorated her High School graduation cap in a Phantom of the Opera theme.
I truly believe that a good relationship starts with communication, friendship , and honesty. I wake up grateful every day for what I have and I will never give that up. Yes, my recovery is very important to me. I do put that first in my life because I need to do that but, like I said, I cherish my kids with all my heart. They support me, as I do them in everything they do. I live a pretty simple life. It can be difficult to write about yourself, but my friends think I am very funny. I love family, both immediate and extended. I have two great cats, and own my own home. It does need some TLC, but it is in a beautiful neighborhood near a spectacular park and wildlife refuge.
Recovery is important to me and it is a lifelong commitment, but I do have time in my life for other things. I believe in being kind, caring and compassionate to others. Giving unconditional love without expectation.
With that in mind, if you would like to send me a message, please feel free to do so. It would be nice to hear from you and maybe hear a bit about you.
