My self-summary
There's a million wonderful things in the universe and each is a little more wonderful with somebody to share it with. I'm good by myself—I write, I run, I cook, I listen to records—but I'm better with friends and family. And the right partner, one who inspires me to be the best, the biggest, the brightest; one who gets the same inspiration from me.

I like liking stuff. I'm looking for someone who does too. Not indiscriminately—part of living life is having an opinion and it doesn't always have to be good—but I'm drawn to people with positive attitudes. Some things I like: trees, tacos, pie, dogs, grammar, New Orleans, New Zealand, street art, vinyl records, live music, long books, long conversations, the West Coast, vintage Ocean Pacific, backpacking, snowboarding, movie watching, discovering a new favorite restaurant/bar/place to watch the sunset.
What I’m doing with my life
Enjoying, exploring, learning, growing. Developing friendships. Settling in. Becoming me.

Fun is fun but the pursuit of understanding motivates me more.

For work I'm the senior editor of a Seattle arts and culture magazine. I write about the important stuff: music, food, booze and travel. I love what I do—it's as much a lifestyle as a vocation.

I published my first book two years ago and I'm now working on my second.
I’m really good at
Elevating a good time to a great one. Knowing where to go. Taking note of auspicious occasions. Cooking breakfast. Making mixtapes. Walking long distances. Whistling. Ping-pong. Being loyal. Entertaining my dog.
The first things people usually notice about me
I dunno—you'd have to ask people.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Infinite Jest, Foucault's Pendulum, Confederacy of Dunces, Watchmen, Hemingway, Vonnegut, Robbins, Jonathan Franzen, Joan Didion, Wendel Berry, The Big Lebowski, Inception, Hate, Snowpiercer, Nathan Barley, Mad Men, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, Thin Lizzy, Wilco, the Flaming Lips, Taj Mahal, Shabazz Palaces, Coltrane, Mingus, Miles, the Grateful Dead, Parliament-Funkadelic, Beastie Boys, Outkast, Fleet Foxes, Jerry Jeff Walker, Townes Van Zandt, the Moondoggies, Car Seat Headrest, Flying Lotus, Kendrick Lamar, D'Angelo, Gang Gang Dance, James Blake, Nina Simone, LCD Soundsystem...

Of all those musicians, I've interviewed and/or written about most of them.
Six things I could never do without
I drink coffee every morning and sleep eight hours every night. Most other things I could give up, at least for a little while.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Lately racism, feminism and privilege. The white man's burden, I know. But this stuff is important to get right as a species if we expect to live with ourselves much longer.
On a typical Friday night I am
At home cooking dinner, drinking a drink, hanging with my dog. Friday night is usually an off night. Thursdays and Saturdays are a different story.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I need a haircut.
You should message me if
You're smart, sexy and enjoy the hell out of life.
You can meld gracefully into any social setting.
You're independent but love people.
You're complex but not complicated.
