My self-summary
I am clever and adventurous. I enjoy exploring our world, our cultures, social constructs, science, mathematics, novel ideas, etc. I'm a burner if you know what that means.

I consider myself an anarchist politically, but a moderate strain, ala deliberative democracy, etc.
What I’m doing with my life
Itinerant mathematician, a fun gig if you can get it. I've mostly lived in England, France, and Germany since finishing grad school in New Jersey, but occasionally stranger places, like Istanbul. I'm at the University of St. Andrews currently, doing research and software in mathematics.

At some point in the future, I want to taste living in Spain, Berlin, California, maybe a South Eastern European city, and maybe Singapore. I plan on leaving academia for industry for at least a little while as well.
I’m really good at
travel, writing (english), mathematics, programming, reading, and adapting to new environments, cultures, etc.

There are also many thing I enjoy immensely but at which I'm not very good, like dancing, especially tango.
The first things people usually notice about me
Long hair
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm fairly adventurous with food, but strongly prefer really good and/or interesting food, i.e. foody. I enjoy all vegetables, beans, nuts, fruits, and fungi, especially lentils, pomegranates, chanterelle/pfifferlinge. I adore strong French, Italian, etc. cheeses.

I'm quite selective about beer and wine. I love the Savagnin wines from the Jura region in France and extremely hoppy beer, like American or Belgian IPA. There aren't many British beer I like, but the Kernel Brewery is spectacular and BrewDog is nice.

I adore Lovecraft, Kurt Vonnegut, Frank Herbert, Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, Tolkien, Stanisław Lem, and Asimov. I prefer Pieter Singer amongst the philosophers I've read, especially A Darwinian Left. I'm pushing myself towards reading more French fiction lately, but mostly I read non-fiction lately, especially mathematics. I read lots online too, ala news or whatever.

I love black comedies and weird movies, like Pan’s Labyrinth, Ink, Grosse Point Blank, Donnie Darko, and Let the Right One In. I like Tim Burton and Guillermo del Toro. I don't watch television unless I know it's exceedingly good.

I've extremely broad but cyclic tastes in music, kinda depends upon what the good local clubs play, or maybe what they don't play. It's frequently been rock, progressive rock, metal, electronic, industrial, synthpop, darkwave, trance or electronic, jazz, etc.

I adore Informatik, Mind.In.A.Box, Deadmau5, Orbital, Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, Brian Eno, Bjork, Sigur Rós, Faithless, Massive Attack, Muse, Rome, VNV Nation, :Wumpscut:, Covenant, Seabound, Project Pitchfork, Skinny Puppy, Lacuna Coil, Ozzy Osbourne, Nightwish, Rush, Leonard Cohen, Tori Amos, R.E.M., and yes Lady Gaga.
The six things I could never do without
I spend a lot of time thinking about
mathematics, cryptography, software development, anarchism, political theory, philosophy, travel, and any new ideas I've read about recently.

Mathematics : I'm currently working on algorithms for geometric group theory, but my previous research topic could be described as infinite simple groups that resemble finite groups. I've extremely wide interests in mathematics generally, including topics in geometry, analysis, and applied mathematics. I've read lots about the stochastic differential equations arising in mathematical finance lately. Fun fact : the Black-Scholes equation is simply the Heat equation evolving backwards in time.

Programming : I'm using the functional language Haskell lots lately, mostly because I always found it extremely pretty, but also because it's Scottish. :) I'm most familiar with C, C++, and Perl though.

Cryptography : I'm extremely interested in applications of anonymized digital currencies to collaboration problems, and privacy issues in cloud storage and communications, i.e. kill facebook. ;)

Anarchism & Political Theory : I'm interested in transparency deliberative democracy, and voting theory, a topic in mathematics.
On a typical Friday night I am
I donno, no routine yet, just moved here. I almost always go out when nothing else is going.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I am Faust a polar bear.
You should message me if
You feel like hanging out around St. Andrews or Edinburgh! Or even if you can tell me what's fun around here. I definitely want to spend more time exploring Edinburgh!
