I used to have a cat named Odysseus but he went on a long trip with a friend and I'm still waiting on him to come back.
For a year I had a job through AmeriCorps doing capacity building for a non-profit who does GED assistance and vocational construction training for 18-24 year old young adults in Detroit. Even though I was only supposed to be working in administration, I made a point to make sure I got to spend at least a few hours a week working on academics with the students and found that forming personal relationships with them was by far the most rewarding part of the job. I'm sad it's over and some how I wound up in finance.
In what little free time i have these days i usually train in Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, or kick it with my friends. I would love to teach Judo or BJJ some day down the road, but don't yet feel anywhere close to qualified. I guess I should also add that I don't do martial arts to "fight" people, I do it for personal fulfillment. I have never been in a fight!
I get along with almost everyone. My friends use me as a test when someone got a new girlfriend. If they can't get along with me, then they must have a generally disagreeable demeanor. With that said, I typically prefer liberal, open minded, intelligent people who are interested in learning new things, and generally kvetching about that state of current world affairs. While it has taken me way to long to realize it, I'm also someone who excels with a set routine, although often struggles to set one.
I also like to try to take a week every year where I go backpacking with my dad. As each of us have gotten older our time together has become more important to me and time away from technology is a fantastic was to decompress and reset.
-Judo/ Jiu Jitsu
-Procrastination (although I'm making a concerted effort to change this)
-Giving advice that I don't follow myself
-Making cats long for my attention (I've been called the cat whisperer. No feline can resist my charm!)
In general, I feel as though I excel at interpersonal interaction. Its what I derive the most satisfaction from, and enjoy the most.
...Certainly not coming up with things I'm good at
In terms of music, I am pretty open. I have a fondness for ska and old school rap, and most things 80s and 90s along with smatterings of "indie shit" for lack of a better term; as long as it isn't dub step or electronica and there isn't any screaming i'm good.
In terms of my favorite shows, in no particular order:
South Park, Breaking Bad, Trailer Park Boys, Cops, Workaholics, Gilligan's Island, Scooby Doo, Arrested Development... to be honest I wasn't aloud to watch much T.V growing up, and i don't currently have cable so these days my intake it quite limited.
Update:I got cable!
I am not a picky eater. I eat to live, not live to eat, although that isn't to say that I can't appreciate a good meal. But man, eating can be so damn inconvenient! These days I have been surviving mainly on a diet of fruit, salad, Mexican, and Blimpy Burger (Nectar of the Gods). Since this was first written I have begun to make dietary reforms! Blimpy Buger closing has been a traumatic experience for me, and I feel kind of lost without it. However, it have also made eating better much easier, since I no longer can indulge my constant Blimpy cravings. So, it was time to give veggies more lovin', and seriously cut down on my red meat consumption. We'll see how it goes, but so far I am feeling great!
Judo/ Jiu Jitsu
The internet (duh!)
My mind! (alzheimer's scares the shit out of me)
Nature (I couldn't live in a concrete jungle)
Update: I have moved to a concrete jungle... consider me displeased.
