My self-summary
Hello! I work as a teacher of the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing. I had to relocate to the Louisville, KY area to do it. It is my first full teaching position and I'm enjoying the challenge of working with kids in today's times.

I like to describe myself as open-minded- there's a lot of things I like but I'm selective about what I get involved in. I'm also very much a 'middle-of-the-road' kind of person where many issues are concerned, perhaps leaning more towards liberal than conservative, though.

I have a variety of interests including but not limited to reading, pc gaming, wood working and wood carving, travel, social activities, movies, watching football/basketball, deafness and light sports.

I am a humanist, and I try to be respectful of people, regardless of whether their beliefs are the same as mine. If there was any religion I really felt kinship with it would be Wicca, but I've never been a ritual sort of person. I do believe there is more to life/everything than we humans yet know.

I am friendly, caring, and intelligent
What I’m doing with my life
Currently I am trying to find exactly where I truly "fit in", my 'niche' I suppose you might say. I'm exploring a new job and a new area, always mindful of the fact that so much would not be possible without those who have always been there for you. I grew up as a 'hard of hearing' person and now consider myself more or less a member of the Deaf community. I occupy my time with pc gaming (namely, WoW!), my wood working/carving projects and reading, in my off hours and weekends. I like to go out and do things, and also travel when possible.
I’m really good at
I'm usually pretty good at getting people to talk to me, and listening to what they have to say. One of the things I've learned I do well is, I can take information that is, say, in text and transfer it to a more graphic rendering that is easier for some people to understand. When I actually know what I'm talking about, I can be really good at helping some one else understand it, a skill I have found very useful in my teaching career so far.
The first things people usually notice about me
The first thing people usually notice about me is how well I articulate myself verbally, especially when they already know that I'm deaf. I believe this is not only a result of my growing up hard-of-hearing, or attending public schools, but also is a bit of a gift I was born with- I picked up language and reading very early.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
My favorite books are too many to list, but most are in the genre of science fiction and fantasy. Some of my favorite authors are Anne McAffrey, Andre Norton, Isaac Asimov, Poul Anderson, and Stephen R. Donaldson. I have made a conscious effort to not limit my reading to just those genres, and recently I've enjoyed reading some biography and auto-biography. The same is true for movies, my favorite all-time movie/tv show is Battlestar Galactica (the original one!). I do also like some movies of other types, for example action movies, comedies and even some dramas too. "Life is Beautiful" would be a favorite one of that last category.

Music is a difficult subject for me. As a teenager in the 80's, I was still able to hear well enough (to my mother's dismay) that I got into hard rock and heavy metal. New music is tough to get into, but I do cherish the strong memories I have of the music I really liked, and it's not all heavy metal! ;)

I love good food, even healthy food, but I also love a good greasy-spoon hamburger joint, too. Mexican and Chinese would be my favorite ethnic varieties, and I like some Thai. I've wanted to explore Indian and Greek foods more too.
Six things I could never do without
My books
My cat
My guitar
My computer
My cell phone
My friends and family
I know it's 7 but...
My sense of humor =)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What really matters? Why are we here? Where are we going? When are we going to wake up and realize our full potential as citizens of the Universe we're a part of? (I'm not any closer to that than anyone else is. lol.)

Why can't there just be two seasons- spring and summer? (I hate cold weather, can you tell?)
On a typical Friday night I am
Usually I am at home, on the computer, reading or watching some t.v. I'm keeping an eye out for places I'd like to go and check out/experience. This summer I went to see Blues Traveler at an outdoor venue in Louisville, and it was great to finally see them live. They're a fun bunch of guys who obviously love what they do!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm some times afraid I'm never going to grow up, just get old, lose my sense of humor, and wither away.
