My self-summary
I enjoy talking about things like science, philosophy, some politics... you know, questions like: "Do the portraits in the Harry Potter universe count as sentient? If someone burns one, did they commit murder?" and "Is there some kind of magic sex-ed? Do wizards have contraceptive spells?". Talking about ideas is one of the best ways to engage and connect with me.

I bring a lot of creativity and industriousness to bear on the things I'm interested in - for example, I enjoy designing and making stained glass art, 3d models, computer programs (and someday games), a large variety of puzzles, and plenty of other things you'll inevitably find out about if you spend time with me. Likewise, I like seeing people follow their own creative pursuits, and I enjoy helping when I'm able (and when that help is wanted).

I like video games, especially ones that intrigue me with good story (or at least good story elements). My love of good stories extends to all forms of media, but there's something special about games - with a little suspension of disbelief, it's easier to get closer to the story when you're involved in making things happen.

I like watching movies, TV shows, and anime. Left to my own devices, I can be picky about what I watch, but I'll watch almost anything someone I'm with has an interest in watching. For some reason, I get more enjoyment when I watch something with someone than when I do so alone, even though it seems like a solitary activity.

If you're familiar with Myers-Briggs personality types, I'm an INTJ. I recently learned Jean-Luc Picard has my same type - I knew there was a reason he was my favorite captain.
What I’m doing with my life
Working as a hybrid Program Manager/Data Analyst for... a very popular search engine company. I work on efficiency metrics and planning stuff for data centers. It's pretty neat.

I also just got an HTC Vive to play with and try my hand at development for. It's a pretty incredible piece of technology.
I’m really good at
Analyzing problems and systems from mutliple angles and coming up with solutions or improvements - one of my favorite ways of using this is for helping people come up with and/or refine ideas.

I'm getting pretty good at Audioshield (a VR game).

I'm always looking for ways to grow and improve myself - that means that I tend to be open to criticism, as long as it's not presented in a "You doing X is bad and you should feel bad" kind of way.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
A few examples of each (there are many more - I have a hard time with picking true favorites most of the time):

Books: Ender's Game (and the rest of the Ender saga) by Orson Scott Card; The Commonwealth Saga and The Void Trilogy by Peter F. Hamilton; Old Man's War by John Scalzi.

Movies: How to Train Your Dragon; V for Vendetta; The Fifth Element; The Professional (aka Léon); the Rifftrax version of pretty much any movie.

Music: Tides of Man; MONO; Hotspur; Long Distance Calling; Imogen Heap; A Perfect Circle; Mogwai.

Food: Pizza; Chinese; Thai; bagels; bacon and eggs.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How the concept of "thinking too much" can really only apply in time-sensitive situations.
You should message me if
These aren't requirements, just points in your favor if true:
-- You enjoy playing board games, and your knowledge of games stretches beyond Monopoly and Checkers (or if it doesn't, but you want it to).
-- You're someone who enjoys thinking about and discussing ideas
-- You prefer a straight-forward, level-headed approach to discussions and conflict.
-- You think you'd enjoy doing any of the following with me: catch a stand-up comedy show, go on a walk and talk, dress up fancy and go to a symphony, meet in a bookstore and talk about our favorite books, play a board game, or show me your favorite place to get tea/coffee and chat.
-- You have your own idea for something fun to do together
