My self-summary
I'm an urban explorer. What does that mean? I like going to someplace in the city, maybe with the idea of going to a restaurant or a bar I heard of, and then getting lost in all that I find along the way. I'm happier making my way in the city, and I hope to spend the rest of my life back in New York. It's part of what I need to help keep me grounded and satisfied. You would never mistake me for anything other than a New Yorker, and a New York Jew at that. I start here because it's definitely the cornerstone of my identity.
What I’m doing with my life
Working in NYC on regional transportation improvements.
I’m really good at
I'm a repository for random and probably useless information, but I'm proud of it. I watch Jeopardy too much, and get aggravated when I can't answer more than half of the questions. I'm none too bad when it comes to number puzzles like sudoku or kenken. I'm furious that after years of trying, I still can't complete the Sunday Times crossword. But I keep trying.

I'm not a bad cook either, and I'm always looking to grow that too.
The first things people usually notice about me
Like someone entering a cold pool, I'll probably be hesitant for the first few minutes when you meet me until I gather my courage and plunge in. I ask a lot of questions and might cut people off once I get talking. That's a sign that I'm intrigued and engaged.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Harry Potter series, Robert Sharpe series, Night, The Maltese Falcon, Y the Last Man, Scott Pilgrim, V for Vendetta, and while they are not books, I am a religious reader of the New York Times and The Economist.

Movies: Star Wars (in order of preference: Empire, Jedi, Hope, Sith, Phantom Menace, Clones is dead last), Knocked Up, Forgetting Sara Marshall, Pineapple Express, Austin Powers, Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction, V for Vendetta, X-Men, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The Depated, Slumdog Millionaire, The Hurt Locker, The Incredibles is my favorite Pixar movie, and my nephew has convinced me that Cars is good too.

TV: Mythbusters, 24, Chuck, 30 Rock, Top Chef, Scrubs, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report, Tosh.O, Futurama, The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, True Blood, Entourage, Boardwalk Empire, Bored to Death, Louie, Wilfred, Game of Thrones, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Jeopardy, Cash Cab, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and practically everything on the Food Network or the Cooking Channel.

Music: The Beatles, The Clash and The Who are bands that I will probably never tire of. Other favorites include Queen, Green Day, Goo Goo Dolls, Daft Punk, Girl Talk, Beyonce, Jay Z, T.I, Justin Timberlake, Jason Derulo, K'Naan, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, The Thermals, Hot Chip, Stars, Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Frightened Rabbit, Mumford and Sons. And while technically not music, I can't get enough of NPR shows. At the moment I listen to them more than music.

Food: Cajun-Creole, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, Italian, British Pub food, American comfort food and of course, Jewish American comfort food, including Brisket, latkes and chicken noodle and matzo ball soup. I do not keep kosher: pork is my very close friend and my second favorite meat behind chicken. I've eaten Alligator, Snake, Shark, Eel, a lot of game and most offal. I love to experiment with food all of the time. It's a great way to get to know people and cultures and traditions.
Six things I could never do without
Good food
A Library
A Private Room
A theater
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The things I like to ponder and study: politics, human behavior, human attitudes, urban issues, urban planning, real estate.

I wonder who OKCupid shows under "Similar users" when you come to my profile.
On a typical Friday night I am
With my friends. We might be out playing pool at a bar, or at a friends house playing board games. We might be at the movies or at dinner in a new restaurant. We like to explore all the places we can go all over the city.

Sadly, those fun Friday nights have been on hiatus while I've been in Grad School, and have been replaced with many Friday's working at school, listening to NPR podcasts and XM Radio.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Smoking raisins is like LSD... on ACID!

No one should get that reference, and that is my curse.
You should message me if
You want to talk, I'm not going to bite and I'll say hi back. There's no harm done by sending a message. Just feel free to give your opinion, I'm always down for a new perspective. I am always happy to make a friend, and friends make the best foundation for something more.
