My self-summary
This is the space where in one sentence I'm supposed to make you wildly interested in me. I probably haven't managed that, but this next paragraph is looking promising, so read on!

You clicked on my profile? Excellent. I'm still working on the whole making you wildly interested in me thing. I love making and watching movies so much I do it for a living. The OKCliche of "I hate writing about myself" holds true for me as well, but I'm going to do it anyway. Better to know too much than nothing at all.

I'm a functional nerd. (I'm thrilled that nerd culture is now mainstream and am usually the one my friends turn to for descriptions of how the latest Marvel movie differed from the comics.) I make tons of references to movies, internet memes, and odd stories I read once about people who died hundreds of years ago. I discuss the thematic relevance of Eminiem's discography before talking about what's going on in politics. I'm a man of many interests--a mystery wrapped within an enigma. Well, not really, but that sounds cool, right?

I love jokes. Wordplay, bad puns, good puns, banter, liberal doses of sarcasm, it's all part of the experience with me. I enjoy being around people willing to goof around. Not to say I can't be serious, too. I spend a lot of time with my friends talking about the nature of the world and what makes people do what they do. There's no quicker way to get me smitten than to challenge me intellectually right after you make my sides hurt from laughing.

I believe in in being kind. There are plenty of difficult things in life, but compassion and respect for others is pretty simple. "The Game" isn't something I find to be appealing. Sue me.

Your move, internet.

UPDATE: In an attempt to keep things interesting, I am adding little games to my profile. Try them all. Or don't. I'm not the boss of you.
What I’m doing with my life
Most of my time is spent trying to further my career in film. It's hard work and has required some sacrifice, but I find it to be rewarding. In the past I have (among other things) filmed puppets, exploding trailers, explored tagged over WWII bunkers, and had a noted culinary host dunk my head in an oversized fish tank. You don't get any of that sitting in an office.

In my down time I like to do the usual--read, watch movies, play video games, hang out with friends, talk about life, the universe and everything. That kind of stuff.
I’m really good at
I'd like to think I'm a creative person. My writing and films have been generally well received. Occasionally someone has told me my work made a difference in their lives in some small way. That always makes me feel good.

Making people laugh. Listening. A lot of people have come to me for advice when times are tough--even those who don't know me very well. I always try to help. I think that's important. Am I "really good" at it? I don't know. Have a conversation with me and find out.

NEW RULE: I frequently embark on missions of great importance to the human race. Tell me one skill I should be really good at when the time comes to save the world. I, in turn, will tell you how to escape from one of the many dangerous situations I have encountered in my travels.
The first things people usually notice about me
I can be quiet initially. What you see here in writing usually takes a couple of times meeting me in person to experience. Once I open up, I tend to be verbose and have long conversations with people about what they do and what drives them. What can I say? I'm a writer. I like hearing people's stories.

NEW RULE: Wild card! Make up a rule and send it in a message. Be nice.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
This is probably not the best question to start answering at three thirty in the morning. I have a hard time narrowing down things into favorites lists. I enjoy a large variety of movies and music for a variety of reasons.

When it comes to films, I love Science Fiction. Seeing Star Wars as a kid was what got me into movie making in the first place. Star Trek was right there with it. And then, of course, the usual suspects: 2001: A Space Odyssey, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T., A.I., Children of Men, District 9, Moon, The Fountain, Blade Runner (for the cinematography), etc.

I also love older movies: Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Grapes of Wrath, Twelve Angry Men, Double Indemnity, Bringing Up Baby, His Girl Friday, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, It's A Wonderful Life, The Court Jester, North by Northwest, The 39 Steps...the list goes on...

Basically, I like anything that's done well--action, comedy, drama, musicals, westerns. I have at least a few favorites from every genre.

The same principal applies for music. If something can make me tap my feet or move me emotionally, I'll probably like it regardless of the genre.
I spend a lot of time thinking about

How best to sweep you off your feet. (Metaphorically. Because I learned early on if you actually sweep a woman off her feet she gets really pissed. On the plus side, it can get you into the Cobra Kai dojo.)

What the male equivalent of the pouted lips profile picture is.

Why I am awake at three or four or five in the morning when there is no work.

My burning desire to be Hugh Jackman when I grow up.

How to better myself.

How to better the world around me.

How technology effects our interactions with each other. (This has always fascinated me and doubly so here at OKC.)

What my next movie is and how it can help me with the first two things on this list.

The futility of my burning desire to be Hugh Jackman when I grow up.
On a typical Friday night I am
It depends on what I feel like doing and who I'm with. I like going out to the movies. I've recently been trying to expand my tastes and discovering interesting new places to eat. (Perhaps you have some suggestions?) Sometimes I go out to bars, where I make sure none of my buddies find themselves on the floor and usually find at least one interesting person to talk to. Sometimes I'm working a fourteen hour day. Sometimes I just like to sit at home and blow up aliens with a crack team of government commandos before my inability to navigate global politics causes the X-COM project to collapse under its own weight. If you get that reference, well done. Here is a ring to speed things along. If not, you'll learn.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm part of a super secret agency that protects the world from all kinds of terrible things you can't even comprehend. However, recently declassified information has revealed I once defeated fifty ninjas in hand to hand combat. While I was asleep. With one hand tied behind my back. See for yourself. It's filed under "Operation Normal Tuesday."
You should message me if
Anything you see above has interested you or made you laugh. I find it's much easier to interact with people in conversation than by answering lengthy questionnaires, so let's talk! You'll get all the quips with a one hundred percent increase in interactivity.

I think it's polite and productive to respond to most people who write, but I don't want to waste anyone's time if I know I don't meet their criteria. Speaking of which, intellect and empathy are important to me. Needless to say, if you directly or through protest supported our new president, we won't get along.

NEW RULE: Everyone's bored of getting asked what they did with their weekend, right? Let's mix it up. For as long as it amuses me, when somebody messages me with a question, I will answer it and then impart tales of the glorious victory that was your weekend. Even if we don't click, you will be able to include "Killed Godzilla with my bare hands and cured cancer before breakfast." in your "typical Friday night" section. And it will be true, because we put it on the internet! The internet never lies!
