My self-summary
I'm a queer, polyamorous, kinky, femme, fat English professor.
I have piercings and tattoos, including lines from Keats.
I'm smart.
I'm funny.
I don't hide the light of my inner sex goddess under a bushel.
Social justice bard here--I've got the warriors' backs..
I like music, film and art, from industrial to Renaissance drama.
I never learned how to drive.
I have an endless supply of trivial knowledge and one hell of a vocabulary.
I look like an extrovert but like spending time alone an awful lot--my BFF says I'm one of the only true ambiverts she knows. ENFJ, if you're interested.
And I know quite a bit about nineteenth century literature.

I co-parent an awesome teenager who does not live with me (my former partner's daughter), I have a bunch of really wonderful friends, I have fabulous sweeties (qijm and CosmicSands96pt), and I have the best kitty ever, Chicken. Sometimes, I have to teach very early classes for six week stretches. All of which means, I have somewhat limited interpersonal bandwidth, but, I am open to new sexual/romantic connections, with folks of all genders and sexes, if the chemistry is right. I have a very strong preference to let relationships evolve organically, so there's no one kind of connection I'm stuck on.

(a few caveats: I tend to work best in relationships with folks within 10 or so years of my own age; I have no interest in long distance relationships or sexting/pic trading/dirty IMing; I'm a bottom/sub for kinky-times. Also, I click best with folks in at least the 90%+ match range.)

I live with chronic health issues/pain/mobility problems that affect my daily life. I deal as best as possible, but need awareness and understanding of this.

I'm found in various internet-y places under this username.

I am vivacious, intelligent, and curious.

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
books:
my taste in non-fiction is as idiosyncratic as my taste in fiction is catholic, but I lean towards fantasy/sci-fi, 18th and 19th century novels, historical fiction, mysteries, social history and magical realism. I'm not much of one for super post-modern experimentation--I like my fiction with plot, narrative and character development.

some beloved stuff:
Lolita--Vladimir Nabokov, The Woman Warrior--Maxine Hong Kingston, Public Sex--Pat Califia, The Changeover--Margret Mahy, The Mysteries of Udolpho--Ann Radcliffe, A Room with a View-E. M. Forster, Woman on the Edge of Time--Marge Piercy, The Wraethu Trilogy by Storm Constantine, The Woman in White--Wilkie Collins, Pride and Prejudice-Jane Austen, Fat?So!--Marilyn Wann, The Moon Under Her Feet--Klysta Kinstler, The Mists of Avalon--Marion Zimmer Bradley, A Natural History of the Senses--Dianne Ackerman, Snowcrash--Neal Stephenson, Beloved--Toni Morrison, The Monk--Matthew Lewis, Patience and Sarah--Isabel Miller, Mara, Daughter of the Nile--Eloise McGraw, Deerskin--Robin McKinley, Skin--Kathe Koja, anything by: Kate Ross, Francesca Lia Block, Dennis Lehane, Jacqueline Carey, Patrick O'Brian...

my favorite poets include: John Donne, Rainier Maria Rilke, Andrew Marvel, Anna Ahkmatova, John Keats, Samuel Tyler Coleridge, William Butler Yeats, Sylvia Plath, Mary Oliver, William Blake, Christina Rossetti, Rumi, Sappho, Emily Dickinson, George Gordon Byron, T.S. Elliot and Charles Baudelaire.

movies:
I have a weakness for period movies and good literary adaptations. "Indie" films and smart comedies also get me going.

these stick out:
A Room with a View, Kissed, Wings of Desire, Pride and Prejudice, Ridicule, Apocalypse Now, The Full Monty, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Maurice, The Lover, Bound, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Love Actually, Monsoon Wedding, Fight Club, I <3 Huckabees, Donnie Darko, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Frida, Titus, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Freeway, Being John Malkovich, Rushmore, Waiting for Guffman, Twelfth Night, The Usual Suspects, 10 Things I Hate about You, Reservoir Dogs, The Princess Bride, Delicatessen, City of Lost Children, The Killer, Memento, Heathers, the Nightmare Before Christmas, the Big Lebowski, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Better off Dead, Secretary, Amélie, the Princess Bride, Inglorious Basterds, Prometheus, Rushmore, Marvel's Cinematic Universe.

Television:
yeah, I admit it, I watch tv. We live in the golden age of television, people!

I'm addicted to:
Buffy, Battlestar Galatica, Supernatural, Sherlock, Life on Mars (UK), Doctor Who, Torchwood, Firefly, Dexter, Archer, Wire in the Blood, Prime Suspect (both US and UK versions), La Femme Nikita, Venture Brothers, Community, Angel, Primeval, The Killing (DE), Ripper Street, Supernatural, Sleepy Hollow, Elementary, Blacklist, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage.

Penny Dreadful may very well have been scripted just to make me ultimately fulfilled by the television experience.

music:
I generally like old-school punk, alt-country and bluegrass, 80's new wave, classic goth-industrial, "alternative" music (esp of the 80's-90's), women who rock, britpop, triphop, punk-edged funk, and some classic rock. Music generally requires the human voice and meaningful lyrics to touch me--for example, I'm all about female jazz/blues vocalists but can't stand fusion/experimental jazz.

some specific bands/musicians I *really* like:
Adam Ant, Amanda Fucking Palmer, Arcade Fire, Belly, Bessie Smith, the Breeders, Carla Bozulich (and her former bands Ethyl Meatplow and the Geraldine Fibbers), Johnny Cash, Cat Power, the Clash, the Cure, Blur, the Breeders, Depeche Mode, the Dresden Dolls, Elliot Smith, Fishbone, Florence and the Machine, Fugazi, Gillian Welch, the Gossip, Hole, Inxs, the Jam, Jane's Addiction, Jeff Buckley, the Jesus and Mary Chain, Liz Phair, Led Zeppelin, New Order, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Nina Simone, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Pixies, PJ Harvey, Portishead, the Pogues, Pulp, Rasputina, REM, Roxy Music, Sinead O'Connor, the Sisters of Mercy, the Smashing Pumpkins, the Smiths, the The, the Throwing Muses, U2, the Velvet Underground, the Violent Femmes, the White Stripes, X, Patti Smith.

this is kind of my theme song: https://youtu.be/5KrNDnj4aGc

Art:
generally, I'm very fond of baroque, medieval, gothic, art noveau, mexican folk, outsider, assemblage and installation art and early photography. I'm a figurative rather than abstract kind of girl (seeing a pattern here?).

I'm enchanted by--
Joel Peter Witkin, Frida Kahlo, Julia Margaret Cameron, Marc Ryder, Henry Darger, Martin Johnson Heade, Gustav Klimt, Aubrey Beardsley, Joseph Cornell, Barbara Kruger, Jenny Holzer, Chiho Aoshima, Bartolome Esteban Murillo, Lucian Freud.

food:
mmm. I like strong/complex flavors, layered, including Thai, Indian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Ethiopian, Italian, French, Trinidadian, Malaysian, Afghani, Middle Eastern, as well as chi-chi noveaux American, gourmet comfort food, really good burgers, high quality chocolate in all its forms, the 4 element salad, vinegary anything and sweet, sweet carbs of all kinds. I'm also a proponent of humanely and sustainably raised meat and dairy, as well as local, organic and heirloom foods.
