My self-summary
Genuine. What you see is what you get...with cool surprises.

How 'bout this...I'm a pretty good (divorced) guy who PERCEIVES himself as dynamic, funny, witty, well-read and informed, intelligent, pleasant, respectful, open-minded, honest, humbly confident and unaccepting of excessive drama, games and B.S. I like friends, family, conversation, cooking and eating food, dining, festivals (music, art, etc),Pepper Place, dogs, listening to and playing music, drawing, nature, yoga, mountain biking, swimming/wading in creeks and rivers, playing outdoors, tattoos and beer (a little whiskey here and there), amongst many other things. Also think I have a pretty good personality. Would like to travel more, but time, commitments and finance currently preclude my sojourns. I have a little girl who is, by far, my favorite person. (Truthfully, she's not in the picture as far as you are concerned, right now and it will be a long time before she and my dating/social life collide) Kentucky is my home state and I have a fairly small social circle here in Alabama, sooooo, I'm seeking to expand my social circle through dates, events, or shared interests. I'm the sort who like to naturally let things fall where they may...naturally.
What I’m doing with my life
Currently, I'm a student in the UAB Surgical PA Masters program. It has been killer but I'm surviving. I volunteer with a couple of organizations and I'm working on being a more selfless person. Meditate some. In my spare time I play guitar and mandolin a lot, see shows, boogie to the beat, mountain bike any chance I get, drink beer, run, practice yoga, day dream and do calisthenics. Sometimes I throw in other things that come along. I have goals and aspirations, and I'm well on my way to reaching those goals, but my ultimate goal is to be happy and true to myself. If I do that, every little thing's gonna be alright! ;)
I’m really good at
Bad puns, people watching, playing stringed instruments (not so good but I like it a lot), dancing at weddings and concerts, being a good father, eating Oreos, friendship, honesty, keeping secrets, smiling, grilling, sauteeing, drinking good beer, conversation, playing outdoors (body surfing, sun-burning, wading, swimming, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, etc) and something else I'm sure.
The first things people usually notice about me
I love to boogie. People say, "Damn, is that James Brown?!" Maybe they notice my moves.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books - Roots, Memories of My Meloncholy Whores, ANYTHING Cormac McCarthy (Child of God, The Road, Suttree, etc), Killer Angels, Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair

Movies - Secretary (telling), Last of the Mohicans (telling), The Songcatcher (telling), Mo Betta Blues (telling), Gettysburg (telling), Bad Santa (to a degree, telling), national Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (to a degree, telling..."Bingo!")

Shows - Don't watch too much TV, but I like The Mentalist, Deadwood, The Office, Modern Family, Parenthood, Burn Notice, PBS, McGlaughlin Group, Austin City Limits, some college football and basketball (not too much or all the time) and anything interesting.

Music - Whoa Nelly!!! A lot going on here. I'm all over the place. 6 discs in my car now. Widespread Panic, Black Crowes, JS Bach, Lightnin' Hopkins, Stanley Brothers and a disc of Aesops's Fables tunes my daughter likes. If pressed I'd say, bluegrass, Jam bands, blues, southern rock, classical and some world beats are my favorite. Easier to say what I don't like. That would be the modern, bubble gum, washed out, country pop that the hordes seem to love. I can't stand it. When's the last time you saw a real cowboy wearing leather pants, earings and a silk shirt? I don't mind earings, leather pants or silk shirts but don't water down some bad pop music put on a cowboy hat and tell me it's country. BS!!! Not into thrash and I'm sure some other things but generally open. I love good music of all stripes. Turn me on to something new...LOVE live bands, shows, performances.

Food - I love victuals (like that word?) grilled/cooked over an open flame. Hot and spicy suits me well. Italian, Thai, Americanese, seafood, pizza, the list goes on. I'm pretty flexible. Some of my favorite places locally are Gianmarco's, Jim N Nicks, Cafe Dupont, Rojo, Homewood Gourmet and Publix Deli. I love to cook, especially grill and eat a good home made meal. Cooking with someone can be fun. I believe in God for many reasons, pork, ribeye steak and bacon being some of those reasons. Lately, I have made a quasi-vegetarian shift. I attribute this mainly to yoga, Eastern philosophy/spirituality and discipline of taking care of my body, mind and soul.
Six things I could never do without
Time to be still
7. Being true to myself...genuine.
There's a lot more than this. I don't like this question.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Sex (it's true), can I get some kind of exercise in, my future, finance, music, musical instruments, nature, family, and how to avoid morons. I feel the need to add Sex to this list again. Just did not realize how much I think about it.
On a typical Friday night I am
Either hanging out with my daughter, making pizza, watching Scooby Doo and playing board games (or is it "bored" games?) or I'm studying, practicing yoga, running, having a beer with friends, playing music, catching a live show or some random event. Would love to try something new.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm a pretty open book.
Scared of snakes.
Virgin. : )
You should message me if
If you're up for a decent guy who is respectful, sincere, energentic (at times), likes good food, good beer, good company, music and a quasi-healthy lifestyle. Got a good heart and a compelling edge. If you are a musician it would really be cool too. Any banjo playing girls out there? If you thrive off chaos, drama and bad energy then please look elsewhere.

Be well!
