My self-summary
I was born...Then twenty-one years later I thought it could be fun or at least mildly amusing to try online dating.

I consider myself, above most other traits, a curious man--hence my presence on this website. I am eager to see what's (or who's) Out There.
What I’m doing with my life
I spend most of my working days walking, feeding, and occasionally singing to cats and dogs.

I am a "veterinary assistant," yet I have never actually owned a pet...besides a single goldfish...named Scott...I took on the job because I wanted to do something completely different with my life that would also provide sufficient time for post-graduation travel (finally made it to Japan for a couple weeks in 2016).

But as I age I am realizing that while variety is indeed the "spice of life," it's hard to sustain on spice alone, and the thought of doing so brings to mind a man with dusty, discolored fingers who emits just the strangest odor...

So I'm looking to move on...Surely by 2018 I'll be living in New York, a young and successful Vice reporter who writes witty and incisive features on obscure-and-interesting-and-topical...topics. Maybe...Is Vice even cool anymore? Working on that by going to j-school this year...admission pending.

Besides that, I keep it pretty simple. I like to read, hike, walk around, find and listen to all sorts of music, and play cheap instruments.
I’m really good at
I've yet to think of a "fun" or cheeky way to fill this out, like so many others have, so I'll just play it straight. I tend to get distracted easily and find new interests quickly, so I've tried, know a bit about, and still occasionally dabble in film photography, electric guitar, melodica (such a great instrument), among other trifling things like darts, bowling (too late to get good at a "real" sport)...baking...I may not exactly be "really good at" all of these things, but they're things I like nonetheless.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Cane by Jean Toomer, The Island of Dr. Moreau by HG Wells, The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima, Ball Four by Jim Bouton, Babbitt by Sinclair Lewis, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers, Where I'm Calling From by Raymond Carver, Langston Hughes' Selected Poems, Winesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson, The Commitments by Roddy Doyle, anything by Robertson Davies.

Movies: Movies are cool. I watch a lot of older foreign films and documentaries, but I also love movies such as Wayne's World and The Big Lebowski and American Movie, which I re-watch every now and then.

TV Shows: I usually just watch TV to procrastinate. I don't watch it too often. I normally just watch episodes of stuff like King of the Hill and South Park, or I'll return to my favorite Adult Swim show--or perhaps just my favorite show in general--Tom Goes to the Mayor. Also, I watched Twin Peaks recently, and it's probably the best TV drama ever...

Music: The Velvet Underground, Berry and Diddley, R.E.M., Charlie Parker, Public Enemy, De La Soul, early 70s soul groups (Chi-Lites, Stylistics), Tune Yards, Ariel Pink, Neil Young, The Magnetic Fields, The Moldy Peaches, Jonathan Richman, lots of 80s music (the punk, the pop, and the hip-hop), reggae that is and isn't Bob Marley, Gram Parsons, Shalamar, Lucinda Williams, and, of course, Tony Toni Toné. My profile, if you're into that:

Food: Food. I could go for pretty much anything, but I am partial to Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Thai, "American" (burgers, regional fare [e.g., soul food, chowdah]), Vietnamese, Mexican, etc. I had Ethiopian food once...It was tasty...I also dig farmers' markets. I care deeply about food quality.
Six things I could never do without
a nearby park
something to read, ideally in the form of a book or a newspaper
a few friends
On a typical Friday night I am
On a typical Friday night I am usually hanging out with some friends, doing any of the following activities: chatting, driving around aimlessly, going to a show, eating out, or just watching something on TV. If I'm not doing any of those things, then I'll probably be at home, reading, or listening to music. Any of these activities--except driving around and the ones that involve me, alone--may or may not involve varying quantities of cheap, or, as I get older, not-so-cheap beer.
You should message me if
You think we have similar interests and could get along in person. Or if you would like to discuss music or movies or books or news or the universe or food or amusing anecdotes or strange phenomena (e.g., or anything really.
