Sunday, Buddy Sunday
WHAT DO WE WANT?
to meet someone in seattle for a beer, or a rock show, or riding bikes, or playing music, or playing pinball, or building something, or learning something, or throwing rocks, or smashing things, or all or none of the above.
WHEN DO WE WANT IT?
i'm a mechanical engineer / designer
i like working for small, startup companies. i dislike working for big companies, corporate multi-nationals, or dicks
(i would totally work at dick's drive-in. they are not "dicks")
right now i'm working with a small company to design a self-sanitizing computer keyboard
a lot of that involves using 3D design software (fucking SolidWorks!) to create models of sheet metal and plastic parts, then using those models to create drawings, then sending those drawings to manufacturers, who then make the parts out of specification with your drawing, and then trying to figure out how to assemble a part that doesn't fit with a bunch of other parts that don't fit.
it's fun. it can be stressful too.
but they gave me a laptop so i can work from home. so i'm only really in the office 25-30 hours a week.
it is a pretty sweet gig. and i found it on craigslist.
it is out in bothell, though. that kinda sucks. i didn't move 2,000 miles to live in bothell. i also moved 2,000 miles with the hopes of public transit and not a shitty car commute. i live near northgate now. would love to get closer to the city, but right now i'm pretty happy. i have a bike and the E line is right there.
i was raised on a healthy diet of MST3k and the marx bros., monty python and the talking heads.
i've read a lot of isaac asimov. he loves to use the word "sardonic".
i've also read a lot of edgar allen poe. he loves to use the word "ejaculate".
at the end of the day, if it isn't subersive i question whether it's even art
in seattle i'm a fan of:
watching B-movies with a pitcher of PBR at the tin hat in ballard
seeing some ridiculous karaoke at shanghai room in greenwood
playing bubble bobble at add-a-ball in fremont
seeing metal and punk bands play at the kraken in u-district
seeing live in-studio sessions at KEXP
shouting "repo man" quotes at the bartender at cozy nut in greenwood
and anyplace that has pinball.
it's a #2 phillips x 8in. makes you feel like a big man, like dirty harry.
lounging in the park
trying to get into D&D/role playing games
if you want to start a punk 'zine or alt-weekly reader
anything collaborative. i need a collaborator.
collaboration begets inspiration.
if you like eccentric mad scientist slacker punk types
