My self-summary
I'm all East Coast ambition mixed with West Coast chill and Southern charm.

I'm a mix of completely modern and a little bit old-fashioned.

Hopefully, you'll appreciate that I'm the kind of girl who listens to geeky history and tech podcasts when she's in the shower and likes Nina Simone and Kanye when she's not. I tend to be funny, quiet and a bit introspective, but not exactly shy. I'm simultaneously complex and simple.

I'm mostly an urbanite and am more indoorsy than outdoorsy. I love museums, art galleries, theater, wine bars, and wonderful restaurants.

I'm looking for someone with a moral compass, however you choose to get it. I appreciate people who have had emotional experiences but who are resilient enough not to have emotional baggage.

I like girls with cojones, men with moxie, and people who are both confident and kind, cultured yet down-to-earth.
What I’m doing with my life
Tech stuff.

Trying not to fall into the cult of 'busy'. Yes, I'm just as busy as you are, but I try not to be too busy for the people I care about and I would like to meet someone who inspires me to take some downtime and not think about checking email or looking at Slack.

I optimize my life for lasting connections with people, so while every relationship is not meant to be a 'forever relationship', I don't really put my time into those that will be extremely fleeting or either transitional or transactional. I'm still friends with many of the people I've dated and when I like someone, I try to keep them around in some capacity.
I’m really good at
Making people laugh.
Entertaining myself - I'm an only child.
Keeping promises.
Being good to those I care about.
Figuring shit out in a crisis.
Making very intentional decisions.
Making very spontaneous decisions.
The first things people usually notice about me
Major smile wattage. That I actually dress like I give a damn (yoga pants aren't actual clothes).
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: I love books and I still go to libraries (I could spend hours there), so I read A LOT.

- Half of a Yellow Sun and We Should All Be Feminists (both Chimimanda Ngozi Adichie)
- Revisiting 'Romeo and Juliet'
- The First Tycoon (on Cornelius Vanderbilt)

Some of my favorites are: The Innovators (Walter Isaacson), The Hard Thing About Hard Things, Tales of the City, Season of the Witch (San Francisco's crazy, intriguing, fucked up history), and almost anything by Octavia Butler.

Podcasts: Stuff You Missed in History Class, This American Life, Fresh Air, Stuff You Should Know, The Read

Movies: Tons of documentaries. Oceans 11, Election, Marnie, Rear Window, The Princess Bride, The September Issue, Grey Gardens, Paris is Burning. Anything campy and fabulous.

TV Shows: Walking Dead (zombie apocalypse!!), The Blacklist, Criminal Minds, Archer, Louie, South Park. I tend to like shows that are either inappropriately funny or weird and scary.

I'm pretty genre agnostic, so I could be listening to pop, hip-hop, blues, jazz, or country. I listen to old school country when I'm feeling melancholy.

Some stuff I'm listening to right now: Alabama Shakes, Jay-Z, Nas, Dinah Washington, 90's dancehall, 60's blues and R&B, 90's hip hop, old country (Waylon Jennings, Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton), new country (Chris Stapleton, Miranda Lambert, Sam Hunt, Luke Bryan, Pistol Annies), Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra.

Shirley Bassey, Eartha Kitt, and Peggy Lee. I love a good torch song.

I'm also not too good to listen to Migos.

Healthy with regular hedonistic indulgences. I couldn't imagine depriving myself for the sake of anything so mundane as a 'diet'. I love red wine (specifically Italian reds) and really good food.

I judge restaurants by the quality of their beef tartare. I'm obsessed.
Six things I could never do without
1. Feather beds and a million fluffy pillows
2. Italian red wine
3. Friends who have become family
4. Internet and good wifi
5. Books. All of them.
6. Love
7. Quick-witted people who get the joke
8. Broken rules
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Where I'm going to travel next. I just got back from Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa.

The internets. I'm just the right amount of geeky.
On a typical Friday night I am
Sitting on my couch wondering who watched all those Beyonce videos in my YouTube history.

- OR -

Happy hour with friends and then in for the night. Maybe a movie before I crash? I'm just as likely to go out on a 'work night' as I am a weekend night.

- BUT -

I would love to spend it cooking dinner with someone special, sharing a meal out at a restaurant we both love, or getting out of town and going somewhere special.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Is anything truly private anymore?
