My self-summary
I'm a little bit ridiculous, but who isn't?

I am very bad at describing myself. I have a sarcastic, occasionally self-deprecating sense of humor, and I love making other people laugh.

I love music and secretly -- okay, not so secretly -- think I will someday be a rock star. This is, of course, despite not currently having a band. I sing to everything in the car. If I don't know the words, I make some up -- why not? I can sort of play the piano, but I am out of practice, and I want to learn how to play either the guitar or the bass.

I like to have adventures. It's been slightly too long since the last time I had one, honestly...

Adventure: Taking off my shoes and climbing across a sandstone cliff at high tide because I can.

Or, meeting a travel agent in a Finnish bar, deciding to take his tour of Moscow and St. Petersburg for a week, getting into Russia, and THEN discovering that I'm the only one in the group who speaks any Russian at all. (Tour guide mostly left us to our own devices, which was fine!)

Or, finding a path or a road and just following it to see what's at the end.

I want to go everywhere, I want to see everything.

I take photos of dilapidated things more than almost anything else because I think there is beauty in decay. My friends and I once found an abandoned logging site that had gone brilliant red from rust.

I love cities. I love being in the middle of nowhere. I don't have a favorite season because I like them all for what they are.

I like to go dancing, but I don't do it enough.

My nose is awesome.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a newly professional speculative fiction (science fiction, fantasy) writer with a degree in physics. I am currently employed in a SCIENCE! laboratory, which is quite exciting. I am studying the mechanisms that allow DNA to replicate.

I am taking prerequisites so I can apply for graduate school in a genetics-related field.

Sometimes I wish I could just take off and live in a different city every few years. I don't like settling down, but at the same time, I need to get some kind of a career going. I'm tired of living paycheck to paycheck.

I am also writing. So far I have a few short stories published, and I would like to have a novel on the shelves in the next few years. If writing meant that I had to give everything, I would do it.

When I go in a bookstore and nobody's looking, I find where my books would be on the shelf and I run my finger across the space. I think this is the closest I could ever come to praying.
I’m really good at
I can cook. Not that I have recipes memorized, but I usually have a pretty good idea of which ingredients go well with each other.

I pick up new skills fairly quickly.

I see more than one side to any argument, which sometimes makes it hard for me to tell people when I think they're wrong -- because I can understand why they feel the way they do.

I put together clothing choices that are unusual but still awesome. My aesthetic sense is queer (for multiple definitions of the word) but it works.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm short, and I have a glorious tie collection. My eyes... and I don't know if that's the color or something else. They're sort of a light blue, which I never thought was all that unusual.

I've been told I look a bit like Oscar Wilde, but that was before testosterone, so I'm not sure if it's still true.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
My fiction projects. The inevitable heat death of the universe. Whether or not it will still be cloudy in five minutes. DNA. Crows.
On a typical Friday night I am
Probably writing. Sometimes I go to science fiction conventions, and on those weekends, I would probably be at a party surrounded by other writers and/or nerds. It is such a glamorous life, you know.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm a female to male transsexual who is currently taking hormones and is still saving up for chest surgery. I'm willing to answer questions about that, but only if you're respectful.
You should message me if
... you're looking for somebody like me.
