My self-summary
I like to live life with a little intensity and purpose and to spend time with people who are positive and intelligent; but don't we all? I live a pretty international existence, full of its challenges. Born in New England, I've lived and worked in five countries, speak three languages, and long to see and learn much more about the larger world before my life is over. I'm tenacious and stand up for what I believe. Lived almost 40 years in NYC and spent most of the last 23 years working and living in Manhattan and London and taking lots of chances to build a good life and a career. Feel very much like a transplanted New Yorker/Londoner living on the banks of the Connecticut River....the city and Europe often pull me back. Life's a little too quiet here.
What I’m doing with my life
I run a small book publishing company, love to cook, garden, focus on nature, and take on new projects. Books, reading, and writing--all part of my business life--are also at the center of my personal life, along with music, art, antiques, friends, food, wine, and my lovely old house. Have written five books ranging in subject from art, wine, to American Civil War history. I live and work in an old house built in 1693 ( there's a second one which was attached as an extension built in 1710); it's cozy and romantic. It's become an impromptu meeting place for friends in the few years I've owned it. On a cold day with the fireplace blazing, it's great to see this house filled with people and good conversation as I like to imagine it probably has been for hundreds of years.

It's a bit daunting but I'm lucky to have the chance to start anew after one of the great marriages. I've learned that a sense of humor and an open heart and mind are the most important things one can embrace in life. I'm ready for a new life, would love to make some new friends, find a great companion and maybe a loving man with whom I can take on the world again. My heart tells me that if it happened once, the chances are it'll come my way again.
I’m really good at
Turning chaos into order; gardening, cooking; writing (published author/writer; run a small academic publishing company); problem-solving; coming up with ideas and putting them into action; entertaining; making people laugh and comforting them; listening.
The first things people usually notice about me
My warmth, affection, generosity, directness, energy and drive, sense of humor, positiveness, huge lust for life, and probably my hair and eyes. I'm romantic, like to help, have a huge imagination, and always sing when I'm happy. Get on the wrong side of me and I'm a terror, but only very briefly. (Yeah, I know myself pretty well).
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Impossible questions to answer!!!!! Just too many things to list to even begin. But, must confess, I am an opera junkie.
Six things I could never do without
friendship, affection, hot baths (I love to be surrounded by water: rain, sea, shower, lake, but really happiest when I'm out sailing; I do my best thinking in or near water), music, champagne, intelligent conversation.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
the next chapter of my life and when my bloody delinquent authors are going to deliver their manuscripts!!!
On a typical Friday night I am
cooking up a storm; watching Bill Maher's Real Time.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
It wouldn't be private then would it?
You should message me if
you are intelligent, creative, possess a sense of humor, are educated (that includes life experience...most important education), like an adventure, think the brain/mind is the sexiest part of the human body.
