My self-summary
Newfoundlander just arriving in the city after finishing my Master's in Ottawa. I'm usually pretty laid back and go with the flow. Flexibility is key. I have a great sense of humour, though I'm not easily offended so this sense of humour can sometimes land me in hot water haha. Also a bit high strung on occasion, I am not very good at the whole patience thing. Definitely a bit of a hopeless romantic.
Confident, intellectual, outgoing and forward. I have a thing for minority politics (usually of the ethnic sort) and languages. I love history and politics generally though-- the more contentious the better.
I would say I am very very curious. I have a constant desire to learn new things and illuminate those aspects of life/history/whatever that I don't entirely understand. If something comes up that I don't know the answer to, I have to immediately figure it out-- thank Gd for smartphones!
What I’m doing with my life
Just finished my Masters in European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies in Ottawa. New to the city, hopefully going to get a job gainfully employed in a field related to my degree or working for an NGO that would facilitate my desire to travel more extensively and become a career. Otherwise I'll head off for a PhD. Academia and learning is pretty cool beans, but I haven't quite decided that's where I want to be just yet.
I’m really good at
Picking up languages, writing (of the academic sort, I'm actually terrible at creative writing), making politically incorrect jokes, and Mass Effect. Also procrastination, but who isn't awesome at that?
Diffusing tense situations with humour, and generally making people laugh.
The first things people usually notice about me
My eyes... or my off-beat sense of humour.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
TV: 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead, True Blood, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Law and Order: SVU, Adventure Time, South Park, Summer Heights High, Beverly Hills 90210, Ally McBeal, Game of Thrones

Music: Taylor Swift, Alanis Morissette, Matchbox 20, Harel Skaat, Christina Aguilera, Jewel, Of Monsters and Men, Owl City, Dima Bilan, Chen Aharoni, Azaelia Banks, Goo Goo Dolls, Beirut, Michael Buble

Movies: Mean Girls, Heathers, Star Wars, Munich, The Kingdom, Ken Burns' The Civil War (do documentaries count as movies?), Titanic, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Roman Holiday, Idi i Smotri, Jurassic Park

Food: Good lord... basically all food. I'm despise mushrooms and mustard, and am not a huge olive fan, but other than that I'm flexible. I love Indian food, vindaoloos are a favourite-- the spicier the better. Also kebab, I cannot resist good kebab and it is a serious addiction.
Six things I could never do without
My phone (yes, I am sadly one of those people)
My daily news fix
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Peace in the Middle East and many other things beyond my control... I'm a tad neurotic like that.
On a typical Friday night I am
Picking away on my mandolin... indulging in some wine, or one of a zillion different things, often involving a pint and a pretty awesome person or group of people.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have a some might say (and have said...) unhealthy obsession with T-Swizzle. It's not that I'm a stalker or anything... I just think we would be best friends, and am willing to go to great lengths to get the chance to prove that she belongs with me. Get it??! Probably not..
You should message me if
You saw anything here that caught your eye (or even managed to get through my rambling), have something interesting to say, or want to try starting something! Always up to meet someone who can show me around the big city. Doesn't hurt if you have a cute smile, either :)
