My self-summary
I'm a quiet man made of equal parts romantic impracticality, gleeful irony, and intellectual curiosity. I am looking for a woman who laughs often, and finds the world a flawed place that nonetheless has endless possibility. I want someone who shares my passions for the little treasures in this world; great music; tasty food; intriguing books; and engaging films.
I grew up in Minnesota, so I have deep love for quiet of gentle woods and serene lakes. Some of my best trips have been long backcountry hikes to places still untouched by humans. But I've also been in LA for twenty one years, and find myself gripped by the excitement and individual pleasures of the big city. I love the mix of cultures (especially the restuarants; little hidden places like Jitlada or Gorge). I 'd love to meet someone who can illuminate their own little corners of the city for me.
And I'm all about the arts (for lack of a better word). Filmmaking is my first passion. I love all types of films from the little esoteric indie film to the big Hollywood blockbusters. Some favorites include The Constant Gardner and Cave of Forgotten Dreams. I'm also a voracious reader, consuming everything from noirish detective thrillers (Raymond Chandler) to modern fiction(The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Klay) to intriguing non-fiction (Guns, Germs & Steel). If you're someone who can't travel without at least three good books and a few magazines (especially The New Yorker) than I'd love to talk to you. And lastly, music. My space here is far too limited to go into detail, but suffice it to say, if you alway have music with you, I'd love to discuss this passion with you.
I'm looking for someone who can share these pleasures with me, and introduce to me their own passions. Someone who can be both sophisticated and silly. Someone who is a little Marcel Duchamp, a lot Dorothy Parker, and even more Marie Curie. Someone who is will to explore this world with their sense of wonder intact, at the same time armed with a dangerous wit ready at a moment's notice.
Here's a great quote from Hank Green that I find quite wise: "You have no obligation to your former self. He is dumber than you and doesn't exist."
