My self-summary
My idea of a good date is sipping scotch in a poorly-lit bar. In my other life, I'm also an engineer.

I just moved back to Baltimore, and I'm looking to meet new people here.
What I’m doing with my life
This is a pretty serious question. A few years ago I sold just about everything I owned (house, car, etc) to move to Wales and work as a post-grad researcher. Good career move? Who knows, at least it was fun!

And now I'm back, living in Fed Hill and dealing with Maryland traffic again.
I’m really good at
Lots of things I guess, but especially anything creative and requiring attention to detail. Engineering suits me well enough, but I always imagined engineering being more like the mission control scenes from Apollo 13 - chain smoking, skinny ties, thick rimmed glasses, and lots of high-stakes problem solving. Like Mad Men but without the booze and sex. It hasn't really lived up to that expectation.

I like to turn my talents toward learning and then mostly explaining the rules to new board games to friends while drinking.
The first things people usually notice about me
I have no idea. You tell me. Maybe it's the beard?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
They really shouldn't lump these together. This section is just way too long (notice: lists are by no means means complete or inclusive)

- Vonnegut, Atwood, Bradbury, Remarch, a smattering of history, and lots of sci-fi
- Also I am currently 13 books deep in O'Brian's wonderful Aubrey/Maturin series, and in doings so I've learned more about brigs, frigates, capstans, and staysails than I ever thought possible.

- The Fifth Element, Fight Club, Alien, Blade Runner, Mad Max (any, but especially the latest), Some Like It Hot, Spinal Tap, Dr Strangelove, Memento, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny

(I really like watching the same movies over and over again. If you're persuasive though, I'll watch your movie pick and probably like it too. I'm just stubborn.)

- Arrested Development, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Supernatural, Daily Show/Colbert (RIP to both now), Workaholics, Rick and Morty
- Also HBO-type serial drama whatevers: Westworld, The Wire, Rome, Deadwood (still my favorite), Breaking Bad, Mad Men

A sampling of my playlist recently:
- The Clash, The XX, Led Zeppelin, Tom Waits, Dr Dre, Cold War Kids, The Decemberists, Hendrix, and of course a bit of Tenacious D

Food: I've really gotten into Indian and Thai food lately. Also sushi is one of the greatest things ever created by man. In general I'll eat almost anything.
Six things I could never do without
I could probably do without most of the junk I already own. Sometimes I want to give up all my earthly possessions and become a monk and brew delicious, potent ale.

Edit: I have given up my earthly possessions. Step 1 is complete.

Edit 2: I bought a bunch of shit. Back to Step 1.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I'm a pretty big nerd, so I think about stuff like improving energy efficiency, or how we could be solving socioeconomic problems in America if half our country wasn't crazy. I'm still coming to terms with the recent election... it's going to be a long process.
On a typical Friday night I am
Drinking and board gaming with friends, or staying up glued to reddit or Netflix, or generally geeking out.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I've probably already said too much, honestly.
You should message me if
You want to play Settlers of Catan or Eldritch Horror (or anything, really, I'm not picky).

Or you have a bar trivia team in need of another underperforming member.

Or you know of a good show to binge-watch on Netflix while drinking wine.
