My self-summary
"Never cruel or cowardly. Never give up, never give in.”

I like film, literature, indie rock, social justice, sushi, literary theory, feminists and feminism, queer theory, gender deconstruction, autumn, dressing in layers, striped socks, knee-high socks on women, knee-high socks on me, Other Music, the Kids in the Hall, Jackson Pollock, Constantin Brancusi, Julia Margaret Cameron, Eva Hesse, Bruce Timm, fleeting moments of transcendence, making out, and Danskos.

I taught myself to read at age three. I was walking at 10 months. I've had red, blue, and blonde hair at various times. (I might be a mutant.)

I tend to make passes at girls who wear glasses. I'm also a sucker for girls with short hair. I like gamines, geeky girls, and nerdy girls, but not exclusively.

I make really great mixtapes. (I will never call them playlists. Never!) I would move to the Bay Area just to be near Amoeba Records. I miss summers in Ithaca. I always cry at the end of Fargo. Pretty much from Marge's speech in the police car onward, without fail.

My extended family lived in Bushwick several decades ago (my uncle still lives in the same house), and I have conflicted feelings about the gentrification wave steadily rising there. (Of course, I lived in Boston's South End in the late '90s and have been in Astoria for the past ten years, so I'm hardly one to talk.)

I've always tried to be this weird amalgam of punk and hippie values without the de rigueur churlishness of the former and the stereotypical self-satisfaction of the latter.

I am empathic and sincere, and I think too much.
What I’m doing with my life
Handcrafted playlists & sound design, if you're into that sort of thing. Not a full-time gig yet, but I'm working on it.

When I'm not doing that, I write and edit and tweet and Facebook. For a library!
I’m really good at
* listening.
* getting the right gift for the right person (so I've been told).

When in doubt, I trust in the three Roberts: Zimmerman, Pollard, and Smith.

I was also raised on country music, without irony. (The '70s and '80s AM radio classics, before the genre went off the rails. Think Juice Newton, Ronnie Milsap, Eddie Rabbitt, and the like.) To quote my mother: "I don't understand anyone who doesn't like country music. It's perfect for dancing, it makes you feel happy, and the lyrics and the sounds work with each other, more than any other kind of music."

e. I have a real weakness for sake don, seaweed salad, duck, and cheesecake. (Not all at once.) The only thing I can't stand is orange marmalade. I try to eat at least one vegan meal a day.
Six things I could never do without
Black coffee, autumnal weather, my iPod, at least one Moleskine, le cinéma, hope.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm really attracted to red hair and freckles. And tan lines. Formative pre-pubescent fixation.

For a long time, I dreamt of being Mr. Sinéad O'Connor.

I own a duplicate of David Tennant's brown pinstripe suit, but I bought it before I ever watched a episode of Doctor Who. There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio....

If you're lucky, you can witness my courtship dance set to Alex Ebert's "Truth."
You should message me if

* museum dates make you hot and bothered. (Standing shoulder-to-shoulder, whispering, aesthetic analysis...mercy.)
* you are a fan of anilore.
* you love Auto-Tune the News.
* you're too smart for your own good.
* you've got what plants crave.
* you like to read a lot.
* you like to kiss a lot.
* you enjoy having time to yourself.
* you're a nice Jewish girl. (Not a prerequisite, of course.)
* you are sincere and good at heart.

No earth signs, please. I've learned my lesson there.

To paraphrase Dan Savage, please be kind, and dedicated to leaving me better than how you found me. I will do the same.

Come! We play Uno, I chase you with hose, no biggie.
