My self-summary
I've been living on my own for the past few years. I'm looking for a best friend and hopefully love of my life who is kind, gentle, respectful, considerate, and compassionate, and shares my passion and respect for animals (my dog would really appreciate that) and for the outdoors. I hike every day out of my back yard with my dog. Maybe you'd like to come, too.

I am well educated and intelligent, and I enjoy discussing and learning. I was a philosophy major in college, for what its worth. I am honest, loyal, and attentive when you get to know me, but a bit shy and cautious till then. I have a great sense of humor and I love to laugh. I've had quite a bit of experience assisting on craftsman jobs such as building and finishing houses and barn, and I like doing that. I'm a darn good tile cutter.

I've always had a dream of having a small farm. I love outdoor chores, and I can drive a tractor and run a loader - I can be dangerous with a backhoe, though. I'm not very domesticated, but with the right man, anything can happen.

I'm not looking for fancy cars, luxury homes, and all that jazz. I'm looking for a nice guy. Spammers and liars, don't waste my time.

I don't have children of my own, but I've been involved with men who do, and I really like that added dimension in a relationship, although it's not necessary. If you have children, great!
What I’m doing with my life
I have a very good job with a company I've worked for most of my life. The non-office part of my life has revolved around my dog and my horse. Hiking and riding are my main activities. I am passionate about music, film, and the arts. I am an avid fan of Leonard Cohen, and am a member of his "Order of the Unified Heart," defined by Mr. Cohen as "a loose association of creatures who find satisfaction in being kind to one another." That pretty much sums up the way I try to live.
I’m really good at
I know my way around a computer. I take the best care I can of my pets. I ride a horse pretty decently (dressage is my discipline), although I seriously want to become a better rider. I'm good at my job. I'm great at loving my pets! And I try very hard to be a kind, compassionate person.
The first things people usually notice about me
I've never asked them.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Favorite books have been "Wuthering Heights" and "Look Homeward Angel." These days I mainly read non-fiction.

I enjoy movies more than television shows, but the early days of "House," "Masterpiece Mystery," "Dog Whisperer." Regarding movies, I love the classics as well as modern movies, as long as they're low on graphic violence: "The Heiress," "These Three," "The King's Speech," "A Place in the Sun," "Muriel's Wedding"... Hitchcock. The artistry of Montgomery Clift, Spencer Tracy, Ryan Gosling, Colin Firth, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Johnny Depp. And I'm a great fan of good documentaries: "Burden of Dreams," "Thin Blue Line," "Buy a Ticket, Take the Ride"...

Music is first and foremost Leonard Cohen. He is my hero. I also enjoy Billy Joel, Harry Nilsson, Harry Chapin, and Bob Seger. I was brought up on folk and classical piano music and show music, so that's in my blood as well. I play piano and guitar, although not in a while. I love to sing, and I'm pretty good at harmonizing.

I don't eat red meat, love sushi, enjoy simple foods. But food is mainly fuel that gives me the energy to get out and do my stuff.
Six things I could never do without
1) The animals in my life
2) A peaceful place to live and be
3) Space
4) Light
5) Music
6) Being needed
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What the future could bring and how I can make it happen, and how much better now and later would be with the right partner.
On a typical Friday night I am
Relaxing in front of a good movie or documentary after getting in from the barn. It would be great to have someone to relax with or go out to dinner.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
That's private.
You should message me if
you're a kind, compassionate person and you want to say hello, because you never know.
