My self-summary
I know the phrase is, “live every day like it is your last,” but I want to do the opposite. I want to live every day like it is my first. Where everything is new and fresh and exciting. Where every choice I make leads to untold destinies for tomorrow. A new life means you are continuously building to something full of possibilities.

Like pretty much everyone else here, I want someone who is smart, funny, and attractive. But unlike most of the people here, I want you to challenge me. To push me, to never let me coast, or settle. And I promise to do the same in return. I don’t want simple or easy, I don’t want the house with the white picket fence in the suburbs, and I don’t want boring. I want to wake up each day and wonder where the day will take me and what lies ahead. Happily ever after can happen when the story is over, and mine is always just starting.

While I grew up in Portland, I have returned after a 14 year absence in Denver. I am excited to relearn and re-explore the place I always thought of as "home".
What I’m doing with my life
I have an awesome job working as a special education teacher at a school that works with students who would normally fall through the cracks. A place where cultural sensitivity, restorative justice, and open communication are not just skills but often requirements.

When I am not working, I am trying to satiate my wanderlust as I try to take two to three trips a year. Otherwise I am spending my time learning, growing, enjoying, making new stories, and helping others. I seem to fortunate enough to show up in people's lives when they need a smile, a bit of magic, or just to see things a little differently. (Or, more often, they show up in mine for much the same effect.)
I’m really good at
Getting to the truth of things, whether it is in conversation by asking just the right questions, the question that needs to be asked but is just out of reach, or in writing my one page short stories that relate the odd tales that occasionally (and wonderfully) happen in my life. The other thing I am really good at is Serendipity - sometimes it is just noting when it happens, sometimes it is being caught up in the moment, and sometimes it is creating the moment for others.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I don't look my age. That I am often paying attention to the world around me. That I ask real questions because I think small talk is a waste of time. Hugs. I tend to get a lot of compliments on my hugs as if there are people out there who give bad ones. And my smile. It is small and subtle, but people seem to really respond to it with big smiles of their own. (One friend described it as mischievous, which is probably true too.)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Movies - My favorite hobby is to find a great film few have ever heard of. A few faves - Once, Before Sunrise, Hugo, Love Actually, the Fountain, Sliding Doors, Before We Go, Amile, Almost Famous, Wings of Desire, Crazy/Stupid/Love... (Movies about two people connecting and changing each other's worlds are my favorite.)

Shows - Sherlock, Doctor Who, Last Week Tonight, Luther, It Crowd, Coupling, Being Erica, BSG, the Prisoner, the West Wing, Newsroom, Sports Night, Daredevil, Jesica Jones, Flash...

Books - I can never seem to finish a novel because get 60 to 100 pages in, and then start something new (I am a Gemini after all.) So I love to read short stories and graphic novels- Charles De Lint, Johnathan Carrol, Isaac Asimov, O. Henry, Gaiman, Warren Ellis, Greg Rucka, Grant Morrison...

Music - If it ain't country, I will probably like it. Right now my favorites are Snow Patrol, Florence and the Machine, Mumford and Sons, Sarah McLachlin, The Swell Season (I saw Marketa perform in a Dublin church which was absolutely amazing), Blue October, Birdy, Hozier, Delta Rae

Plays - I am always up for Shakespeare. My favorite play is Arcadia by Tom Stoppard. While I am not huge on musicals, Rent is also a fave. I am usually up for watching anything live.
The six things I could never do without
Amazing conversation
My curiosity
My ability to perceive the world
A great story
Good friends
Bacon! (Yes this is a seventh, but everything is better with bacon!)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to make genuine connections, and how people can live with only surface relationships...

Where I can be so more awesome moments take place...

What is the right balance between science and spirituality...
On a typical Friday night I am
If I don't have set plans I am somewhat impulsive on what I like to do as I have been known for showing up to some randomly recommended event. Sometimes just relaxing at home because I believe in going out and enjoying myself any night of the week, not just waiting for Fridays and Saturdays to happen.
You should message me if
If you haven't grown up quite yet, but when you do, you plan to be a traveling detective and solve crimes and go on adventures around the world. (Or maybe just solve the mysteries of the universe at home on a quiet day.) If conversations is your favorite activity, but you love to go out and do things because being in the world is what makes conversation more interesting. You want to have a good laugh and enjoy smart/dry humor and sarcasm. And/or if you like to plan your activities an hour or two before actually doing them or better yet, on the fly.
