My self-summary
I was born and raised in Michigan, and lived in New York and the San Francisco Bay Area before coming to DC. In other words, I'm happy wading through two feet of snow, love city life, and I can appreciate a good avocado.

I'm an urban planning and public transportation enthusiast, and I'm glad that DC gives me an opportunity to enjoy both. I have a clunky bike that I ride places sometimes, other times I use a clunky bikeshare bike.

Claim to fame: You can hear my voice for about three seconds on an episode of This American Life that was about my brother.

I won a charity poker tournament when I was in college and I got a big foam check. And a real check, but isn't getting a giant one more exciting?
What I’m doing with my life
Bureaucrat at your civil service!

Outside of work, I like to cook, try out new restaurants/bars, go to restaurants/bars I already know are great (local favorites for dinner include Big Bear Cafe, DCity Smokehouse, and if i'm in the mood for something fancy, Red Hen), read, and banter.

I'm a good fifteen years behind schedule, but I'm taking driving lessons now & hope to have my license by the end of September. So if you want to relive the sensation of driving with a teenager, albeit one with a blessedly moderated sense of invincibility, I'm your man.
I’m really good at
Making people laugh, listening, remembering legal/regulatory citations, trivia, cooking, eating, sleeping, talking about stuff. The last time I played a round of miniature golf I got two holes-in-one, so yep — I'm pretty much an all-star.
The first things people usually notice about me
I have an odd, but always appropriate, sense of humor for the situation at hand. I also have an ear for accents.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Favorite foods: Pizza is my favorite, but I like nearly all cuisines. I like my food very, very spicy.
Movies: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (extended edition!), The Big Lebowski, The Lives of Others, the Planet Earth series, pretty much anything but romantic comedies.
Books: The Power Broker, Europe Central, Consider the Lobster, V., Nixonland, Neuromancer, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy & sequels.
Music: Project Pat, J.S. Bach, and most things in between.
Six things I could never do without
1. Pizza
2. C-SPAN (seriously the best set of channels on television)
3. My family
4. Books in hardcover
5. the Internet
6. After-dinner drinks
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Awful puns, what's going to be in the next issue of the Federal Register, how come C-SPAN 2 always plays the same Haydn string quartet piece during Senate quorum calls, how to win arguments (but not be too much of a jerk about it), witty rejoinders.
On a typical Friday night I am
50-50 chance of going out for dinner & drinks or ironing clothes with some whisky nearby.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I read appellate court (and US Tax Court) opinions for entertainment. I am not a lawyer, nor am I in law school.
You should message me if
you'd like to go on a walk or get a drink and get to know one another.
