My self-summary
Are you sitting comfortably...? Then I'll begin

Once upon a an urban jungle...there was a man who had slumbered for many years in his silken draped ivory tower. Cast there by the wicked spells of the evil witches of widowhood and divorce he led an untroubled - yet lonely - life and dreamed of his phantom of delight. Awoken by her kiss from his long slumber he opened his eyes...and she had vanished. Bereft, he embarked on a long journey to find the damsel in his dream. His journey took him into an even deeper jungle...the internet. Where he fought cougars, dragons and sirens..
We all dream...and then reality kicks in…
For me, life has always been an adventure...born in Co. Donegal, schooled in Egypt, first set foot in England (aged about 14) With adventure built into my soul!
I have scaled life's heights - and once or twice have plumbed the depths. Seen sensible times - like acquiring a good education, joining the Higher Civil Service and the like. And doing more interesting being a bookseller. Occasionally a rebel...
Widowed, then divorced. Three adult children - all long flown...but sometimes they find that they still need their dad.
I am a serial failure as a retiree. I got dragged into voluntary work which escalated and I'm now a (very part-time) director for a large social housing company and a couple of NHS Trusts but, whilst I continue to enjoy life's adventures, there are times that I feel that the adventures would be better when shared with a life partner. I could say a lot, lot more...and will if some adventurous woman - my "phantom of delight" - really wants to get to know ask!
I am fairly confident (though, like many men, I can be quite shy when first meeting a woman). I have most of the "normal" likes and dislikes...but on balance I prefer to choose the adventurous path - whilst still being mindful that the "tried and true" path has its own advantages.
I started off with "Once upon a time" so I suppose I should finish with "and they all lived happily ever after"!
Que sera sera...
What I’m doing with my life
Looking for you!
I’m really good at
Quite a lot of things...but, then, there are zillions of things I know nothing about
The first things people usually notice about me
As the Scottish poet Robert Burns once said.
"O, wad some Power the giftie gie us
To see oursels as others see us!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
My favourite book always is the one on my bathroom floor. Currently re-reading Stranger in a Strange Land. I am a retired bookseller.
Favourite food? This week it's Moroccan. Last week Italian.
Six things I could never do without
Beyond the necessities of life there is nothing I could never do without. However, there are things that help towards happiness...
A radio in every room
Something to hope for
I spend a lot of time thinking about
...those rare days when I have the luxury of not having to think about anything.
On a typical Friday night I am
I don't do "typical". Last Friday I wallpapered a room. Next? Don't know yet.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I sued Mrs Thatcher. Twice.
You should message me if
...if you got past my whimsical profile...
