My self-summary
I am a person who is very sensitive, but also strong. I am able to self-reflect and reflect on others. I'm told I'm insightful and intelligent. I am capable of great warmth and of giving. I like people and learning.
I have strong shoulders and can support my partner and my friends. I can also admit and emend (or amend, if you prefer) my errors - I know I have faults. I am capable of taking joy in the simplest of things. The sound of a shoe, a laugh, an accent. I love sound and it truly makes me happy. I'm not perfect and I don't want someone who is perfect - that would be rather frightening!
What I’m doing with my life
Going about trying to achieve my full potential in my art, enjoy life, stay healthy and stay happy. I am a performing classical guitarist and composer. I teach music at the university level and have a PhD.in music and a Ph.D. in psychoanalysis and have a small practice. The interchange between the two fields is fascinating to me. (I cannot expand on that here, as it's rather intricate and long for this venue).
I am not a starving artist and have been lucky to be successful.
I have made mistakes in my personal life, but am learning (it's a lifelong pursuit) to recognize these choices and grow.
I’m really good at
Meeting new people, making friends, Cooking, physical and emotional intimacy, travel. Listening to music, coversation - really listening. Learning, Running. Random use of Capital letters
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm told my voice and my eyes.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I can't name a favorite book, movie, composer or piece of music, or food - too many and too much (respectively). it depends on the time and day. I usually jump between 3 to 4 books at any given time. I love music and books- too many to list, but a sampling would be Music: the 4 B's - Bach, Beethoven, Brahms. Beatles. Also Otis Redding, Nina Simone (great new documentary about her on netflix), Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, Radio Head, Joni Mitchell, Balinese Gamelan, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Bird, Monk, Elliot Carter, Stravinsky, Schoenberg.
Books: Unaccustomed Earth, Snow, Shakespeare, Laurie King, Louise Penny (for light reading), Bill Bryson, Melville, Kazantzakis, Kundera, Rushdie...
Food - everything. I do like things spicy, but can tone it down for my guests. I love to cook for people.
The six things I could never do without
the numbers 1 through 6 would be pretty difficult to operate without. Surprise. Music. Women (in the world). A special woman that's my best friend, lover, whom I adore, and truly enriches my life. And feels I enrich hers.
Life, but alas, I know I'm finite. Darn!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Music.
How People think.
How I think
Intimacy
Being active to improve things I care about in the world - the truth, I don't do enough of this.
The people I care about.
How people (myself included) deal (and sometimes don't) with what the world throws at us.
Pieces I'm working on.
The world - and what's happening in it.
What I want to do next
My loved ones
The pointlessness of car alarms.
On a typical Friday night I am
Spending time with a friend, out on the town, having dinner guests over, reading, etc..........
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I like absurdity and intensity and --------what is the point of this question?
You should message me if
If what I've written above appeals to you and would like to get know me.
