My self-summary
Some people my age are planning for, or beginning, their retirement. On the other hand, I am very much engaged in life, from work to community involvement to personal relationships. My agenda each day is to be in the trenches. If you are in the retirement mode, I would not be a good fit for you.

I am not into frenetic activity. I am not easily bored so I don't have to leave the gym and go bowling and then to the clubs for a night of dancing. My interest is for a relationship in which the being together part is the point of the activity, not the other way around.
What I’m doing with my life
I have worked in a nonprofit organization that serves the needs of the homeless street people in Reno. The work is often difficult, success is limited and the compensation is pathetic. There is nothing else I would rather do.

However, I find it necessary to find other work to sustain myself so I am searching for a paid position, hopefully in nonprofit work, a field in which I have some depth of experience. I will continue to find ways to try and serve those who suffer from poverty, homelessness, and addiction.

I have been a political activist since a young age and I find this sort of activity deeply meaningful. My leanings are clearly to the left.

I have been very single for a very long time. My real goal is to meet a woman with whom to grow and enjoy a rewarding relationship.
I’m really good at
I'm really good at politics. I like to study it, talk about it and get active during elections (see above).

I'm not really good at golf, but I like to think I will be, soon. Of course, I have held onto that thought for some years. Maybe, if I weaken my grip a bit...
The first things people usually notice about me
For some reason, they always say it is my eyes. I don't know if that is a compliment or not. They are fairly large and quite blue. They don't look like they "bug out" to me...
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I like to read suspense novels. Crime, legal, political. Not the supernatural stuff, but the psychologically twisted is OK! My favorite writer is James Lee Burke. Like most of the authors I appreciate, he writes of the South and, although long removed, I am a Southern man. History and politics are my main nonfiction interests.

I like different kinds of movies, mostly mainstream. I like to collaborate on choosing movies to see.

I enjoy classic rock, real classical, some country and traditional American folk.

I like all kinds of food from sushi to steak.
Six things I could never do without
I used to think sex was on this list, but after a very long time, I guess I was wrong!

Food, Books, the internet, Meaningful work, Family, At least one good friend.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Politics and how I can be part of the solution, maybe only a small part, to the terrible messes we seem to be in as a culture and as a nation. Not that I am a pessimist, I just think we've gone off course and need some adjustments. Mostly, I don't want merely to complain, but contribute, as much as I can, to the process.
On a typical Friday night I am
Home reading or watching TV.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
At times, I fear that I will be alone forever. More often, I remain hopeful.
You should message me if
...there is anything in here that you find interesting, appealing, curious or even outrageous. Another reason might be that you would like to know an adult male who truly believes in gender equality (not sameness; equality), and who genuinely likes women.
