My self-summary
Me: Hi, I'm April.
Drunk dude at a party in college: Meatball?
Me: No, April
Drunk dude: MEATBALL!!!! (then he picked me up and kept shouting Meatball!!!)
The nickname stuck.

I'm really good at looking silly. Sometimes on purpose; sometimes not! But would rather have fun than be afraid of looking silly.

I won't say no to a game night! I love playing games or turning normal things into games or puzzles. Unless they are number pattern puzzles or wordplay puzzles (suck at those too!). I just like problem solving and turning everyday life into play whenever appropriate and possible.

I love conversation especially about why people do the things they do or think/feel the way they do. Or how the world works. I like to think and I like to share those thoughts and I love to listen to others thoughts. I wonder if that sounds really simple...maybe it is!

I am a very empathetic and curious person. This makes me feel things deeply and be rather attuned to others' feelings. It is my best and my worst quality. I think often our best and worst are the same thing. My curiosity makes my brain go and go...often having 5 more questions after the rest of the room may be over it. I don't always voice these questions cuz of the aforementioned empathy!

I love to be challenged. I'm very generous and a care taker but also a strong independent person so I like when someone has a backbone and can challenge and push back on ideas but always with the same generosity and care as I try to do it with.

I love NYC and I love CA. Wish they weren't so far apart!
What I’m doing with my life
Promoting play and trying to change education as we know it!
I’m really good at
Doing interpretive dance as back up for karaoke!

Prying! But only because I am genuinely interested. I can't tell you how many times I've heard "I don't normally tell anyone this but...". I just tend to ask a lot of questions and people start talking.

But I'm also good at procrastinating whenever I can get away with it.
The first things people usually notice about me
my smile, maybe...I have a very full smile and smile a lot.

My mom has a large mouth and teeth and my dad has a small mouth and teeth. The result for me is getting 4 teeth pulled because my mom's teeth didn't fit into my dad's mouth. I like to think of this as a metaphor for me. Got a lot of conflicting things from each of my parents and it has occasionally resulted is some tricky situations but after I work it out (ie. pull some teeth) I end up with a smile (And a person) I am happy with!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Terrible with favorites but some stuff I like:

Books - I Know This Much Is True - Wally Lamb; 100 Secret Senses - Amy Tan; Fortune's Daughter - Isabele Allende.
Non-fiction - Things about the value of play, chikdhood, comparative religion, psychology, myths, sprituality, or art/creativity. I just love to read and do it as often as possible.

Music - I am moved by music and singing at the top of my lungs is my happy place. Too bad I'm no good at it!

TV: Sometimes I think TV is a colossal waste of time and other times I just love it! I don't pay for cable so I hulu or netflix Favs: Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Sports Night, Sopranos, Arrested Development, Friday Night Lights. My friend and I are re-watching West Wing when we have down time together...that was a good show.

Food - home-cooked meals of any kind, Thai, Sushi, and chocolate chip cookies (Levain Bakery!!!) - I love to cook.
Six things I could never do without
I hate these kind of lists but I really do like rules so this question is a perfect example of my conflicts!
Loved Ones
Getting out of town
Something to read
Something to write on/with
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Who we are, where we came from and why...It's exhausting!
Or figuring things out - how they work, why, how to solve the problems.

And what I have to read this week and when I am going to get it all done!
On a typical Friday night I am
no such thing as typical but I enjoy cooking/hosting friends, wine club, lectures/discussions on interesting topics, Theater (that i am actually choosing instead of obligation), taking improv class, Shambhala meditation, Hash House Harriers.
Good food, good wine and good conversation and I am likely having a good Friday night.
I also love talking to strangers or new people. Which makes okcupid really work for me. Even if we aren't a good match, I will probably enjoy talking to you.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I want to be Tami Taylor.
You should message me if
If you can laugh at yourself.
You love yourself enough to love others well.
You see the value in being known and loved well by one romantic partner rather than casual experiences with many.
And nowhere on your profile does the phrase "bonus points if..." appear.
