My self-summary
I'm really geeky - always have been, always will be. I've been a Classics nerd for going on twelve years now. I'm also a big fan of scifi-fantasy, interesting song lyrics and picking apart romance novels. With love, so please don't try bashing romance novels in front of me! Anyway, I haven't had much time to read for pleasure lately, but I'm getting back into it now that I'm doing the whole library thing and it's making me pretty happy. I'm specializing in young adult services, so if I read YA lit I can even tell myself it's for my job! Fun *and* educational. Probably my favorite way to spend time (aside from reading) is poking around in used bookshops. I register on the liberal end of the spectrum, but I don't especially like arguing about politics; it just makes me upset.

I play the violin and viola, but I listen to all kinds of music, not just classical - pop, folk, punk-rock, even techno sometimes. I've pretty much always got my earbuds in. I'm determinedly amateur about music, though; I think it's less fun if I have to take it really seriously.

An alarming amount of my free time online gets spent on fanfiction. Yes, I'm one of those chicks who writes gay internet porn! If I've read it, watched it or seen the music video, chances are I've considered where the story goes after that, or how the characters got that way. Honestly, I don't really get people who can put down a book or turn off the television without wanting to see what else could happen in that story.

I go through phases of interests (historically, whatever television show I happen to be watching at the moment) but right now my main thing is professional tennis and soccer/football. FC Barcelona, man. How anybody can watch that bunch of magical midgets and not fall in love I'll never know. I'm kind of a weird sports fan in that I don't really enjoy watching matches, but I love reading about them, and all the drama surrounding pro sports in general. It's really cool to follow the narrative arc of an athlete or a team in the media over a season.

I don't do one-night stands, so if that's what you're looking for, I'm not the girl for you. Also, I believe in being open to all possibilities and that you never know who you'll fall in love with, which is why I'm still listed as bi, but I'm not super into dudes as a general rule. I mean, I like them as people or whatever, I'm just not really interested in their junk. So gents: if you want someone for activities that involve taking off your trousers, there's nothing wrong with that! But maybe look elsewhere.
What I’m doing with my life
I've got a bachelor's and a master's degree in classics (Latin and Greek, not Shakespeare or Beethoven) and I just finished my second master's in library science. I don't have a job yet but I'm hoping to work with teenagers in a public library! Right now I'm taking the summer off to travel in Europe, though. BE JEALOUS.
I’m really good at
languages, grammar, music, taking care of friends, retelling classic (or just classically atrocious) novels with humor and many swear words
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm tall for a woman, I guess? And my hair is very long, so if it's down that's pretty noticeable. If it's not down the chopstick holding it up is probably distinctive, too.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
my absolute favorite authors: Robin McKinley, Neil Gaiman, Garth Nix, Naomi Novik, Georgette Heyer, Jane Austen, Patricia McKillip, Sarah Rees Brennan

so many movies, so little time. all-time top three are Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Much Ado About Nothing and The Importance of Being Earnest. Saving Face is up there too! I haven't seen much television recently but I like shows that make me smile without also making me cringe with second-hand embarrassment too much; the last show I watched on the regular was Hart of Dixie, and I used to really love White Collar.

music: Florence + the Machine, The Dresden Dolls, Mumford and Sons, Laura Marling, The Magnetic Fields, The Fratellis, Vienna Teng, Mirah, The Decemberists, Death Cab for Cutie, The Postal Service, Sufjan Stevens, Alexi Murdoch, Vampire Weekend, Hellogoodbye, Iron & Wine, Noah and the Whale, Andrew Bird, Regina Spektor, The Dandy Warhols, OK Go, Stars, The Weepies, Imogen Heap, Frou Frou, Explosions in the Sky, Placebo, Silly Wizard, Carbon Leaf, Poe, Rilo Kiley, Sigur Ros, Cake, Nickel Creek, Lily Allen, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, Beethoven (for a very incomplete listing)

I love all of kinds of food! I can't eat anything spicy and I'm picky about flavors but in almost every restaurant there is at least one dish that I love to death. I have a huge sweet tooth, too!
Six things I could never do without
my laptop, my teddy bear, conditioner, good water-pressure in my shower, music, high-speed internet
I spend a lot of time thinking about
OH GOD WHAT AM I DOING WITH MY LIFE, my friends, whatever I've read or watched lately
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out with friends or sleeping, depending on how much the week has sucked.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Old enough to drink, still a virgin - it's not a religious thing, just haven't met anyone I'm that interested in. (Please do not take that as a challenge. I'm just not into fluid-swapping with most of the population, it's nothing personal.)
You should message me if
I sound interesting, I suppose. But please not if you can't spell; it's a horrible pet peeve of mine. Fair warning, I'll judge you on your grammar and usage as well.
