My self-summary
After staying away for what feel like years I have returned like Moses/Gandalf/Batman to okcupid from my Mount Sinai/Valar purgatory/League of Shadows retreat of dating apathy and am ready for the romance equivalents of creating Zion/defeating Sauron/being Batman. I am very dependable, trustworthy and prone to putting as much thought and energy into whatever I’m doing as possible. I’m an information sponge and in conversation will regularly start talking in detail about a something inanely specific.
What I’m doing with my life
I’m learning Vietnamese with a view to being fluent within 3 years, consulting for film set designers and currently working at an Everyman cinema. I have multifarious groups of friends that I'm very close with and I see them often.
I’m really good at
Talking; I listen and remember things that people tell me.
The first things people usually notice about me
That there's some inflection that they don't recognize in my apparently standard English accent.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I read and consume TV & film pretty broadly since I'm of the absurd notion that a knowledge-completionist would be a good thing to aspire to. Currently I'm trying to complete the complete a tome about Vietnamese history but I have read a lot of Nick Hornby, Robert Shearman and Michael Dibdin books. I know Harry Potter inside out even though I haven't touched them in a good few years.
Movies of course are too many to name but a few include High Fidelity, Metropolis, The Devil's Backbone, An American in Paris, On the Waterfront, Pina... Mad Max: Fury Road was a religious experience and more people need to see Love & Mercy & 20th Century Woman. Awards season comes with mixed emotions for me because I usually detest something that's universally lauded by critics and friends.
I watch House of Cards, Mad Men, Homeland, Game of Thrones, The Newsroom (try The Newsroom! It's great) I also like Arrow & The Flash, Sherlock and Doctor Who.
Music I like includes Jack White, Gorillaz, T Bone Burnett, Bobby Darin, De La Soul, Daft Punk, Lou Reed, Chali 2na, Mos Def, Yelawolf, etc
Six things I could never do without
1. My friends
2. Writing in some capacity
3. Making my own film about every three years
4. Tonic (gin not necessary but always appreciated)
5. The Mass Effect games
6. Youtube
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Do I spend too much time being intentionally disingenuous? If you are a perceptive person maybe you can help me figure that out. Also, who would the perfect cast of a Metropolis remake be...
On a typical Friday night I am
I don't really distinguish Friday night and seemingly neither do my friends. We're perfectly happy going out on Tuesday night and staying in on Friday. At the moment I'm often working on weekends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I once met a Game of Thrones actor and that night he died on the show. I think I killed him. It wasn't Ygritte or George RR Martin it was me, I know it :'O UPDATE: I randomly met him again and worked with him on a film. After several days I confessed my guilty feelings to him regarding our previous encounter and (when eventually recalling it) he provided the sweet relief of forgiveness :D
You should message me if
-I've heard men can be pretty creepy on this site and clog up women's inboxs with variations on: "wow u rly hot. I think u wud like sex wit me." If I received 100+ of that every day I would lose all faith in humanity. I won't be doing that. Message if you like what you've read above and might potentially like to meet up. Also, I'd never send you a message that's simply 'hi' so please don't send me one :P
